Didn't I post these already?
***, Where did you move the wires to that were bolted to the fender? I dont see them in the picture.
Hey thanks for experimenting with this for all of us. I know it takes some big brass B***s to cut holes in a new truck.....
Thanks again...
Looks like you are on to a good fix.....

Good catch, I forgot to mention that. You can see the wires in the pic, they got a little overspray of black paint when I was touching up my work. I simply drilled a 1/4" hole about 1/2" from the stock fender intake and used a 1/4-20 nut and bolt. You need to cut the hole for the second intake first so you can reach in and secure the nut and bolt. Thank all the guys that sent me their stock intakes, like I said before I wouldn't have been able to do this experimenting with out em.
Perhaps there was a *little* more air intake noise but certainly not a a big increase. As for added power, I could not detect any difference. I will need to drive around a bit more, I would expect to see a slightly quicker throttle response due to better air flow but I really did not notice much if any difference.

Are you guys taking the entire filter assembly out or just tearing the seven layers apart and taking out the charcol filter then putting the other layers back in??
I just snapped the plastic rivets and took out the entire charcol filter. Like I said, I did not really notice much if any benefit but I don't think it will harm anything either. If you wanted to re-install it, some hotglue would probably do fine.

I edited the OP so the how to is down to only snaping it out.
mine wasn't held in with snaps- it looks like there were long plastic rods coming off the box lid, which were melted down to retain the plate. I snapped the plate off, then shaved the remaining rod material down with a box cutter.
Don't bother with this mod, keep it in, it's not hurting a thing, matter of fact the throttle response seems much smoother with it in, and my gas mileage seemed to drop off with this BS mod, I put mine back in
Here is my opinion and it's from a guy that modify's everything he owns....
No MPG difference when the charcol filter is removed, change in throttle response can be argued, however it certainly provided me with more rumble under the hood right back to the exhaust tips.
I believe an affective way to increase performance would be to increase the amount of air that goes to filter. It takes more air to make more air, rather simple idea. I like the track *** has went on. He's really fortunant to have those extra air intakes to play with.
There is absolutly nothing wrong with oiled filters. IMO a foam filter will trap a smaller partical, but I've been sold on KN filters. I've been using drop in filters on atv', dirtbike and vehicles for fifteen years and I'm only 26....lol.
The first thing you do to enhance performance over OEM is replace the airfilter element and do the exhaust, it's a given. It doesn't matter if were talking a performance 2 stroke carbbed quad from the 80's or a fuel injected performance machine from current, right up to any vehicle, it just works.
IMO fenderwell pickup is the best for the everyday guy, the guy who goes to work during the week and pounds it off road on the weekends. I don't recommend trying to fab something thats going to ram air from the front of the vehicle. If that what you want then save your money for a cowl induction hood. Hands down the ultimate air intake. On that note has anyone heard of a molded hood for cowl intake?
Thats my honest opinion, wouldn't dare say mines the best because beauty is in the eye of the holder, if your happy with what you got, then you are at peace....lol.....
How do become an official "IBTO" member...lol. I'd like to represent the a little town from ontario canada. Occasinally give you a modified perspective from a modified man.........
Well, I finally did this mod....just for sh!ts and giggles.....took all of 2 min.....lol, while I was at it I checked my wifes durango and the scoop for the intake comes out of the front instead of the side like ours, so it sets right behind the grill....so I think "that's cool ram air...lol" but then I notice it has a 8" x 10" piece of rubber in front of it and only on that side...well, needless to say the rubber is gone and you can look through the grill into the scoop....now it IS ram air...hehehe

You may want to make sure that your modification of removing the rubber flap doesnt leave the "ram air tube" suseptible to getting water in it in a rainstorm. You wont be your wifes favorite person if it fills up the airbox and floods the motor leaving her stranded!!
