I like to leave it on and monitor channel 19 when idle... on the 19DX none of the switches are 'real' (except the PA switch), instead they are electronic toggles so they reset every time. Sometimes it turns on channel 0... which is nothing.
Maybe I will upgrade to a 29WXNWST, because at least it has real switches which, if left on ch19, will stay there on every power up.
I'm interested in seeing pictures and details of the rest of your install, like what kind of antenna you used: wavelength, whip and loading, mounting method: bracket/through-hole, electrical connection and coax (probably RG-58 or RG-8...).
I use the CB mainly to communicate with others because it is an open service... I have my own bunch of higher power 12/30W licensed commercial radios for stuff like multi-vehicle deployments which eliminates interference from other users.. sometimes the people with modded radios or linear amps, and having to check if anyone else is using the channel, or letting them use the channel because of its public nature.
