CB install

I was having a hard time figuring out where to install my CB. I like clean looking installs. I did this about a week ago and its worked great. Ill take and add pics of the external speaker and the antenna tomorrow. Hope this helps...

Did you make use of the 18WX STII's always-on 12v line for memory backup? One of the things that is bothering me on the 19DX IV is that it doesn't remember the last channel and defaults to ch1 all the time. Do you have to keep the center console open all the time then, or do you just close the top on the cable (ext. speaker, right?), and where do you put the mic normally (when driving, for example, where it would be impractical to always have to reach over to hang it back on the radio-mounted clip)?

I usually turn mine off when not in use, and it usually resets to ch 9. I close the console, the mic just sits on the center, or on my lap while cruising. The external speaker helps alot, otherwise I would have to leave it open like I did for a day or so when I first installed it.. it got old fast.

Great idea, I don't have that console so that won't work for me. Plus know one really uses a CB anymore they all have cell phones, laptops, and 2 way radios now

Yeah, the only time I use it is when a group of us drive seperate cars. It also helps in a traffic jam (get info from truckers ahead).

Most truckers in my area don't even have them anymore unless they own their own rigs. Most are rental trucks or leased, so know one bothers putting CB's in them. That or you have to flip through every channel to find out which one they're all using. Used to be channel 19 was the "Trucker" channel but that's not really the case anymore.

Its usually 19 down here...This CB has a Scan, which rotates through channels until it picks up talk. It helped out in a trip to south Fl last week. There was a pretty bad wreck down the road, I got switched routes just in time, I heard later that traffic was locked up for a few hours.

I like to leave it on and monitor channel 19 when idle... on the 19DX none of the switches are 'real' (except the PA switch), instead they are electronic toggles so they reset every time. Sometimes it turns on channel 0... which is nothing.
Maybe I will upgrade to a 29WXNWST, because at least it has real switches which, if left on ch19, will stay there on every power up.

I'm interested in seeing pictures and details of the rest of your install, like what kind of antenna you used: wavelength, whip and loading, mounting method: bracket/through-hole, electrical connection and coax (probably RG-58 or RG-8...).

I use the CB mainly to communicate with others because it is an open service... I have my own bunch of higher power 12/30W licensed commercial radios for stuff like multi-vehicle deployments which eliminates interference from other users.. sometimes the people with modded radios or linear amps, and having to check if anyone else is using the channel, or letting them use the channel because of its public nature.

Where to put a CB Radio?

Did a search and didn't really find anything.... I am wandering if anyone has mounted a CB Radio in their truck? I have a Uniden PC 78 Elite.
Also need to figure out where to mount my 4' Firestick

Thanks for any input

I made a thread about my install. You might be able to jam it into the map compartment in the console (assuming you have one due to Limited trim package) or in the center console. See also this thread.

Also the Firestiks have a threaded bolt connector so if you are doing a fender mount that will require a pretty large bracket, other options are bed mount, either through an angle bracket or stake pocket.

With the new bluetooth CB's that are part of the mics you dont need a large CB anylonger. However I still prefer my galaxy, I havent reinstalled it yet but its in the works.

Looking inside the console I see you are in the Army Hoo-ah.
