Can someone please confirm (not guess or ponder) that the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 sub fits behind the rear seat of the 2016 CM?
I am also considering using the stock Tundra HU directly into a JL Audio XD700/5v2 five channel amp to power the stock speakers and the sub with no line out converter since the amp has speaker inputs. Anybody done anything like this or have any advice? I figure I can always change the speakers or the HU later if I ever wanted to, but to my ears the number 1 problem with the stock system is lack of watts running to the speakers. There are of course other problems too, but I don't know if I want to spend the money to fix all of it at this point in time. Thanks
I have the stock HU with the center speaker and two side dash speakers but it is not a JBL.
The seats do not fold down and I will have to pull the seat to install it. I already know that. I also know that people sell enclosures that fit. Thanks for both of those comments.
to answer your question it will but, it will be a tight fit you might have to remove the subwoofer grille to give it the space it needs. i have the CP208LG-W3v3 installed in my truck and i had to remove the speaker grille on both sides. Take your time and get a friend to help out it will fit nice and tight but take precaution not to damage the box or the subs.
do your self a favor and buy a LC2I or Lc6I it will turn the crappy signal coming from the factory deck to a useful signal the amp can use. It sounds like extra hardware and more money but in the long run it will be worth it. i made the mistake of using a crappy 20 dollar LOC from PAC and was amazed when i finally changed it out to the LC2I from audio control.
You should really look at the Sundown 10" SA. At 6" of depth its close to the JL. I have been extreamly pleased with the 2 12 SA 's I have in my S10. Been runing 1800 watts to them for 3 years and they jam like you wouldnt believe. They put the w3 and rockfords to shame. Im gonna do eather a single 10 or 2 8" Sundowns when i do a systeam in my CM. Dont let the 8" fool you either. A guy has 2 in a regular cab chevy in town and you'd swear he had way more in there. I dont remember his set up but the point is to look at them. You'll really like them
YES, it will fit. I have that exact sub, and have used it in my '14 and my '16 CM. Here's the catch...it will only fit one way, and requires a bit of finesse. You want the port to face the middle of the truck, grill towards the front, and put it behind the driver's side back seat.
Once you fold up and unbolt the rear seats, just tilt them forward, and then find yourself a torx bit to undo the screw that holds the plastic trim to the seat hinge near where the door closes. There's only one screw there, it's on the bottom of the trim piece at the back. Once that screw is out, the plastic will flex just a bit when you put the seat down, and allow the sub to fit.
Once the seat is bolted back down and the sub in place, leave the seats folded, and push the sub box all the way to the middle of the truck until it hits the little bracket in the seat back, then fold the seats down. It will require just a little push for the metal seat bracket to clear the edge of the sub, and then you're golden.
FWIW, that little sub sounds REALLY good, and adds a dimension to the stock stereo that makes for a huge improvement. I'm powering it with an Alpine MRV-250 sub amp, and it's perfect for my ears.
All the signal wires from the headunit can be found at the stock amp under the passenger front seat, you'll need to run power and ground, obviously. I'm using line-level straight into the Alpine amp with excellent results.
With it being that close to the back seat, how is the sound? Is it muffled any? I was looking at a powered sub until I saw this thread. BTW...Thanks for the post!!
I did everything myself. It's not difficult at all, but I've done stereo installs in my cars for 20 years. If you know the correct end of a screwdriver and are comfortable working with electronics, you shouldn't have any trouble.
You'll need to unbolt the rear and both front seats, run power through the firewall grommet, splice into the factory amp wiring (unless you buy the harness), etc...nothing too crazy, but if that makes you nervous, I'd get a pro to do it.
Now all I have to do is wait for either black Friday or cyber Monday and hope I get a better deal on an amp and the sub. I may not but I thought I would wait to make sure. Nothing worse then buying something and then a few days later the price is lower.
Snug fit but fit just fine !! Sounds REALLY good. The JL CP108LG-W3v3 sub puts out for the size. Sounds just about as good as my W6 8" stealth box I had in my old crew cab.
Amp is under the passenger seat on top of the plastic cover over the stock amp. Used the amp's speaker level inputs and honestly it sounds great. I'd have to say if a LC2i or similar was hooked up instead, I doubt I would be able to hear a difference.
shit now I want to upgrade my stereo. anyone in ohio that wants to help lol. any chance of getting part numbers or links to exactly what I need. might have a local shop install
Since we are on the topic.. WILL CP208LG-W3v3 fit behind the seat on a Crewmax. It is the dual 8 inch box. Same depth but 35.5 inches long? Anyone? Thanks
Thats a tough one.
My guess is yes, but only beacaue i was able to configure this "one" a few different ways given the size. I probably was able to make it fit with 3-4 different positions and without any issue.
One solid longer box is less configurable thus giving you less options to move it around and clear the seat brackets. If the two grills on that box clear the seat mounts given their position, i would say it works...
I hope someone does it and it works cuz that would be an awesome set up. But I also hope it dosent work cuz that would mean I have to buy one.
Haven't yet. Had to have truck and then the holidays. Hopefully I can be able to leave with them for a couple days soon. They are a big installer in the area and were confident they could make it work.
james at tech12volt is a stand up guy and will take care of you. the box is a little sloppy (fiberglass resin all over the inside) but performs as described. quality made box made to spec will allow the sub(s) to perform as intended.
