When I first researched upgrading the audio in my 2014 DC I wanted an MS-8 and keep the stock HU.
But after reading about it and talking to a few local installers (yes I should have known better) it all seemed too complicated.
Tried the Audiocontrol LC6i and it works, but it doesn't sound like I want it to so I felt I needed some way to equalize the stock HU.
I ordered an Audiocontrol LCQ-1 and then a DQ-61, but returned them both without even opening the box and bought an MS-8.
With what I've already spent on this project, it sounds nothing like I want it to with the LC6i.
I've also read other threads about the MS-8, but wanted to start from the beginning.
That said, I'm replacing my Audiocontrol LC6i with an MS-8 this weekend.
What is already in the truck right now:
Alpine PDXV-9 5 channel amp. 100w RMS /500w RMS
Front speakers - Focal PS 165 FX 2-WAY COMPONENT
Rear speakers - Focal 165 AC Coaxial
Center dash speaker - Polk Audio DB351
Sub is a JL twin 10" Stealthbox, but I know how that will be hooked up.
What I'm trying to figure out:
Option 1
Run center channel and rear doors off the MS-8
Run the front door mids and tweeters on separate channels from the MS-8 and amp
I've already run speaker wire to the front doors for the mids and I'd use the stock wiring for the tweeters
With that, do I bi amp the Focal passive crossover or bypass it and let the MS-8 do the crossover.
Seems the 2 crossovers would conflict with each other.
I feel this would be the way to go to take full advantage of the MS-8.
Option 2
Run the center off the MS-8
Run the front components on 2 channels and rear doors on 2 channels of the MS-8 and amp.
And with that, I guess I'd have to use the passive crossover on the fronts.
But I'd still have two crossovers going to the fronts.
I feel this would be the easy way out..
I know I can always change it up, but I'm trying to decide which way to go first.
I know my way around installing, but I have a lot to learn about crossovers, slopes, etc..
So forgive me if I sound like I don't know what I'm doing, I'm learning along the way.
This MS-8 is going to be a PITA to get set up.
But I'm hoping in the end, it will give me what I want.
Thanks for any and all input..1LL
A huge thank you to roboots21.
He has been more than helpful in his thread responses and PMs.
Without his help, I wouldn't have bought the MS-8 at all.
