So this is my first post, but this forum has been a huge guide in the problems the toyota entune has (shutting off, freezing, bluetooth chaos etc etc).
I just bought a '14 tundra and I am having a terrible experience with Entune. I know people have also been having the same problem. So I complained ALOT to toyota. I called them, I called them again, and i filed all sorts of complaints. I got the usual runaround from the dealerships about "updateing the software with a USB toyota would send them" etc that everyone else has dealt with.
Luckily, i got ahold of the entune tech support team in oklahoma. They were really really awesome and admitted the entune nav/bluetooth/iphone/ipod problems were of "an epidemic proportion" and that going to a dealership is not the answer. their solution to circumvent the cost cotting protocal of "updating the software" is this:
they gave me a case number immediately granting me a new stereo that has been rebuilt and tested to make sure it has all the fixes that were plaguing the old system. You take the case number in a dealership and they look it up and see that I have been granted the solution instead of having to go through the multistep problem of getting a flash update, then maybe getting permission to have the stereo replaced.
I hope this helps guys. I will drop back in and post the 1800 number to toyota's entune department.
she said all she does all day is issued case numbers for people to go get new stereos.
"this entune system has been a nightmare for us and we are rapidly trying to fix it, but there is a major communication problem with letting everyone know that we are trying to replace these units, and not just give people a software update that wont fix a hardware issue"
If anyone else is a member on the other toyota forums that have been discussing the Entune problems, please paste this post over there.
What kind of Entune issues were you having?
Reason I ask is that I never use the iHeart app or any of the other stuff. Mostly XM, nav.
If I use Pandor or IHeart that's a connection that comes off your phone carrier data plan right?
I'm asking cause I don't know and not sure if it's something I would care about.
Concur, I had one problem this morning where it said connection error to my phone. Removed iPhone cable, plugged it back in problem solved. I didn't get the nav in my truck, because coming from BMW and Audi and having to pay for new maps I said screw it. I use the apps on my phone and maps on my phone for everything, versus the ones on the truck.
problems I have:
Ipod freezes.
System freezes when listening to music
text message can reboot system
bluetooth phonecalls will drop and whole system reboots.
bluetooth disconnects.
sometimes the whole system just freezes when doing nothing at all.
sometimes cant change screen from Nav to audio.
stuff like that.
you may have gotten a good unit. You may have gotten a faulty one. If its the latter, you will sure know it.
my stereo froze right out of the dealership after cutting a very hefty check for a new TRD tundra limited. needless to say I was not amused.
I have been having the same problems. Dealer took it in to try and "recreate" it but of course it didn't happen the few hours they had my truck. I finally started getting videos and showed it to the dealer. They took it for a day and updated the system. Well, it is still happening (freezing and resetting) more frequently. Called the dealer and was told to drop it off for another day so they could take yet another look at it. I'm tired of wasting my time with them and their runaround. Any info you can provide would help a lot. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the insight.
Guess we got a good unit.
I did have a good go roundy round with getting wife's phone to pair up after I turned off my phone but did the add new phone thingy again and all is well. However, a sticky for that number for us late comers......picture 6 months from now ....hmmm where is that thread on ah looney tunes ah no..no...thats not it was it name that tune......? sheet now ah gottah post and ask and get humiliated for not do the search thingy...again.......:friday::scratchhead::yikes:
I have it written down at home but thats the number listed on the toyota website.
Just a reminder, they called me because they read my complaints and offered to fix it. Im sure if you call and say hey my entune system is garbage they will immediately know what you are talking about.
the girl I spoke with chuckled and said "trust me, we know what you are talking about and really wanna fix it for you, thats why we called"
she also mentioned that Toyota suspects an entire warehouse of entune systems were faulty (thus thounsands of toyotas have a garbage entune harddrive/control unit)
I have been having serious issues with BT when I have the MAP protocol enabled. It hasn't frozen the stereo yet but it makes my phone go haywire and just casues havoc. It sucks.
No, that means you didn't buy the optional Navigation. Only the Nav HU is compatible. You can put one in though if you can find it, then use the VIN from a truck that came equipped with one.
I knew this would happen as soon as I said something then it starts acting up. Sometimes I get a connection error when I start my truck up, also I could have swore when I first bought the truck I could control my iPhone with the steering controls. Meaning I could switch between various playlists, push play on screen and it would play the new playlists. Now when I switch playlists I have to push play on my iPhone to start the song.
I just took my truck in to the dealer yesterday. They did a software update to address the multiple issues you described. The texting portion of my system still is not working. I will make sure al of my settings are correct and start moving up the chain of command if the problem continues. I am an android user.
I been having a lot of issues in recent time, but unsure whom makes the Radio for Canada, I called Toyota Canada with no luck, its a TRD Crew Max 2014 with the Bogiovoni System added, if its the same manufacturer, i will call them, before I go to dealer next week for service
I called the dealer to get the ball moving, again, on this today. The service rep said they will need the truck to try and replicate the problem. This looks like it is going to become a PITA for me. The service rep admitted this is a known problem but they have to follow a prescribed procedure before they can get authorization to order a new stereo.
I am in the busiest part of my season and can not afford to let them have my truck for extended periods. I am not happy.
If you could please PM me a contact # I would greatly appreciate it.
Dealer has my truck for past 2 days. They were able to replicate most of the problems and ordering an new unit along with new maps. Also there is a possibility for a new amp.
Just got back from my 4th appt for this problem. I just left with them scratching their heads. My unit will totally freeze (no touch screen, no buttons, no knobs will work) Eventually, up to 10 minutes of a frozen screen, it will reset itself.
Toyota dealership told me to disable my incoming messages option for the system because entune is getting over run with data and resets itself to solve the problem. If that doesnt work, just disable the entire bluetooth, and that might solve the problem.
I cant believe this! They are telling me to disable options they sold me as part of the entune system to fix the problem. Ridiculous!
The Toyota corporate people I have been working my claim through are useless. On more than one occasion they provided me inaccurate facts about my service and they have no answers for me except for "we will contact the dealership and speak with them".
Dealer says there is a problem with iphones, androids, and some other phones across the board. He also said that the entune systems that are in the '14s were designed in 2012 and they are not caught up to the modern smart phones. Sounds like a Toyota problem that all rolls down hill to me.
I'm having some minor issues. I'm due for a service visit, so I'll update when/if I am given any solutions or fixes.
My problems with Entune are:
1.) There is a thin red line that is always visible on the screen. It gradually appeared and after start-up, it would usually fade enough to not bother me. Well, now it is an annoying, constant bright red line.
2.) Text messages stopped working on Entune.
3.) Emails have never worked on Entune.
4.) Entune has frozen and immediately reset itself off and on, maybe a total of 10-15 times.
I had some issues with mine right off the bat as well. I did the update and have not had a problem. Questions for all of you. Starting with the OP. Did you have the update done? Or did you just start calling Toyota to complain about it. There is a current TSB with the latest updates. You others that have taken your trucks to the dealer that they couldn't duplicate. Did they try the update or not. Or did they just stop at NPF? If they didn't try that, then go in and ask them to do the update. They have to do it for the first three years. Ask them and if they say they can't, get the manager. If any of you are in So Cal, call me at 714-439-3364. I am at Tustin Toyota and I'll handle it for you.

Here is my wonderful red line. Seems like a hardware problem, not a software problem. Hopefully this warrants a new unit for me with updated software as well.
Yep! Yours definitely is a hardware problem and yes, they need to replace yours. What they need to do is open a TAS case. This is where the technician calls a hotline and talks to other guys that used to be techs and basically think their s#@t don't stink. They make them jump through hoops before they will allow the tech to order a new unit. Does that line come and go or is it there all the time? Keep those pictures and show them to the manager. A lot of advisors are jerks and don't like warranty work. Problem with that theory is that if you don't take care of these folks while they are under warranty, what makes you think they will come back to you when the warranty runs out?
I have had the software update. The system still will not recognize my text messages. The local tech said I have to bring the truck in so they can try to recreate the problem. Unfortunately I need my truck daily for work so that is a tough next step for me. I was hoping to rattle some cages at corporate but it is beginning to sound like that is a waste of time.
Hopefully I will get this dealt with in the near future...
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. The texting worked great for 6 months then the system started resetting. After the update I have not been able to get the texting to work.
