Any ideas on how to replace my non-navi unit with a navi? I've heard that factory units aren't that great and aftermarket ones are better. How about aftermarket options. Are their any options out there that retain a factory look? I'm really not a fan of the 'ghetto rigged' look. Pix would be appreciated.
Had the non-nav Entune unit in my SR5 and swapped it for the nav unit I bought on here. Sure it has it's quirks but it works fine. Bought it for around $400 and it was a simple 30 min swap. If you go aftermarket you will be in for more than a 30 min swap. Sure you can get more bells and whistles with something aftermarket but if you want nav and bluetooth along with Entune apps, an OEM unit is the way to go.
+1 for swapping in a stock Nav. Easy, and I like the stock look. If you must have an aftermarket one, there are dash kits. With a kit, you can fit any standard double din HU, but you will also need additional harnesses and it will not look stock. As you can see in this pic, the stock unit is all one piece, knob to knob. This means if you go aftermarket you need to fill that empty space with the dash kit.
The trucks are still so new that not many people are taking them out. You just have to keep looking. Took me a few months looking almost daily at the forums, ebay, CL, etc.
Yeah, I figure it will be a hunting game until I find one, but I just threw my request out here instead of starting a new thread. If I don't have any luck in a couple months, then I'll probably become more of a pain in the ass about it
So let me ask guys. i have a basically brand new 2013 I just grabbed. Its an SR5 and has no navi just normal cd player etc. Can I just pick up a navi for sale from any 2010-2013 Tundra/Sequoia and it fits right in and works with the same factory plugs etc? If thats the case let me know because I'd definitely go that route before I went the Pioneer/Kenwood route. Not new to this but not sure if maybe the navi equipped cars have something extra like plugs etc
I'm not 100% sure on the 2013, but I thought they were interchangeable. I had a pioneer in my 08 and never really liked it. I love the idea of the apps more than the navi on the 14s
Never owned a Gen 2 so not 100% sure, but I spend way too much time here on TT, and I think that unlike the 2014 you need to add a GPS antenna. Like I said, I could be mistaken, but I'd double check before buying one.
got mine from a Tacoma forum member named FLTRUCKS $450 with shipping all plug and play 3 months now no issues full navi and apps entune. took me just over 30 min to swap over the head unit very easy
What do you mean "full navi"?
I have an SR5 and my Navi works...is it supposed to work differently than it does? What features constitute it as "full"?
Nice. I've been looking on a couple forums and ebay, still haven't found one yet. Hopefully I'll find one soon before my Paypal account is empty...grabbing a Ms-8 and new amps soon.
Nice! So I'm going to start looking for one and see what I find. Would be a nice touch becuase if I dont get that I'm going to get me a new Pioneer or something and I'd rather not go that route.
Congrats! Make sure you get the VIN# from a truck that came with NAV so you can sign up for the phone app to make it all work 100%. Maybe the seller will give you his. :beerchug:
Nice to hear you got it working. I was so glad when I found out here on TT how easy it was to swap in. That's the one thing I wanted when I bought my truck that I didn't get. Now I don't have to regret it.
OMG! Thank you so much. I've been searching but couldn't find it. Could you send me a link to a front camera for the 2014 as well. If there is one? To where I can see the front camera through the oem head unit.
