AUX input?

I just recently purchased a 07 DC 4x4 and the previous owner tore up the AUX input. I asked the dealer today what a new one would cost and was told $115. I noticed the 2010 models also have a USB above the AUX plugin. Has anyone tried to install a 2010 model AUX in a earlier model?

Welcome to the forum! Don't forget to introduce yourself in the new member section.

never heard of this being done. I would say the aux would work but the USB wouldn't because the 07-09 probably isn't prewired for the USB. I am not sure, just guessing that it isn't. I have never pulled out my radio so I am not sure how that ties in to the radio. I am sure someone here has though.

You won't get USB functionality without also changing the head unit out.
If you don't care about having a factory-looking AUX port and just want an electrically functioning one, just buy any panel mount 3.5mm TRS female connector with plug insertion detection (should have 4 contacts) for $5 or less and put it into one of the blank spaces beside it (if there are any). Wire it appropriately. I can dig up the wiring diagram if you are interested in that.

trent, im not sure if that would allow ipod control through the h-u n steering wheel or not.

may be interesting tho.

That is right, there is no device control capability with just wiring for analog audio.

I suggested the cheap solution because it is a technically functioning solution, like with the info buttons. I don't believe in paying close to $100 for a OEM branded audio jack unless it does something no other component can do.

I answered the question by stating that USB will not be possible without changing the head unit, then kinda strayed off that and suggested a normal 3.5mm female jack with plug insertion detection.

From what I read, the problem is that the vehicle once had a working AUX port as they all do, but the mechanical connection is having issues.

I'm not sure where the iPod-specific thing was brought up or why it is relevant to this. Any analog audio source will work with the auxiliary input.

I thought about just doing a different one and wiring it in also. I just Wanted something to fill the hole back in and not have that ugly opening. I talked to my buddy at my local audio shop and they have something that will wire to the factory headunit and give me ipod capapabilities along with charging for around $80 which is cheaper than the $115 i was quoted at the dealer for just the 3.5 aux input. The only Problem with that is we have an ipod/iphone hook up in our 02 wrangler but it wont charge the 4th gen ipod touch or the iphone 4 thanks to Apple changing the pin connector or something. Well with the iphone 5 coming out within prolly the next 1-1.5 yrs I hate to buy either the $85 connector or the $125 connector. So maybe i should just wire in a $5 aux input for now and see what happens.

If you are talking about the AUX and not the USB port your truck should've came with it from the factory. Mine came with it and I plug my phone into it for music and it makes my phone go crazy and shuts it off, I don't know about iPod's though.

2013 aux input capacity

Does the 2013 input capacity?? I want to take the 2w output from my Amateur Radio and plug it into the Aux input on my Tundra so I can get the radio output through the vehicle speakers. But, I don't want to damage it by over loading the circuit.
Thanks
