MPG Issue

Has anyone had issues with their MPG? When I finally ran the damn thing to E and filled up it only took 20 gal. I was told it had a 26gal fuel tank which would average to 11 something gal. if it only has 20 that would at least be like 15mpg. Why would the make such a great truck with a 20gal tank?

thats been my question from the beginning - everywhere says a 26 gallon tank but mine only takes up 20 gallons when i run it until the "light" comes on .. maybe it has some sort of reserve or the light comes on when you have 100 miles to go? haha idk

Ya but the pump doesn't lie. 20 gallons is 20 gallons! But I guess that doesn't account for what's left after the light comes on. Hmmmm.

Ive been tempted to run it out and carry a full 5 gallon can with me to test it out. Do you guys know if running it out of gas would create any problems with getting it started again right away.

I was just gonna suggest that! I honestly don't see how it could hurt.

Not sure why it is an issue... Refill at 320miles town use or 400miles highway. I have put up to 21.8 gallons in mine as i continued to drive for a bit on "E"...

I think I'm gonna try it. It will be near the end of next week before I have a result to report.

If you search for this issue, you'll find that this experiment has been done quite a few times by members here and on the other Tundra forums. If you run it out of gas, it takes ~25 gallons to fill it up. About 1.5 gallons cannot be scavenged by the pump.

But I agree the light comes on a little early at ~20gal. This question comes up about once a week.

Yep. You'll also get a "warning beep" at ~24gal mark.

I dont know bout yall but i did the math and the trip i just took i filled up two times more than I would have had too with a tru 26 gallon tank. That pisses me off. who in their right mind would buy a truck with a "350" with a 6 cylinder gas tank in it when gas is at $4 a gallon. Me and toyota gonna have a talk about that tomorrow.....
