Rough ride with TRD package..

I have a 2008 Tundra SR5, Double Cab, Short box with the TRD package. I find the ride very stiff and choppy. Has anyone ever changed the rear suspension to the regular shocks to improve the ride?Do you have to change all the shocks to improve the ride? Im not at all happy with the present system. In all reality, I wish I would have bought the regular truck.

Yes it is diffrerent, the shock/strut is Bilstein witch is an offroad shock and it sits a bit higher. Changing your shocks should do the trick although some of that might also be the typical Tundra bed bounce. Look into stock Tundra shocks. I replaced my whole rear suspension one at a time. I'm using Rancho 9000XL adjustables for the rear. I also put a 3 leaf mini-pak and it helped a bit. Since I have an RCSB, it is lighter than DC's so mini paks are still stiff. Here's the link for the mini pak from another forum:

Finally, this weekend, I replaced the entire leaf spring set with Alcan springs. Rides nice now. Still tight, but it should loosen up after break -in.

Deaver, they're in O.C California and they are one of the best! I put the progressive mini packs on my 2000 Tundra, worked great. The mini's replace the overload spring and give a smoother ride while maintaining the payload progressively. Good stuff for the new Tundras! Deaver Suspension

Are you ever planning on using it Off Road? Not on a nice maintained dirt road but on an unimproved road? If so then do not change a thing. If you are not then you probably never needed the Off Road package. The main advantage of the Off Road is the Bilstien shocks. They hold up great under tough conditions.

My old Tacoma had the TRD package and I hated the ride. It beat the crap out of me. I stayed clear when I bought my Tundra!

You think the TRD taco was bad. i had just the 06 sr5 and the suspention was bagged out in 3 months, i would be driving down the hiway hit a heave in the road and the thing would bottom out. Tottal crap.

I have a DBL cab 4WD TRD and have never minded the ride at all... maybe the extra weight of the 4WD helps???

I have DC 4x4 TRD also and I can say it is choppy, but it depends on the road. Smooth rolling bumps are fine and the truck handles well, but on an old crappy highway the suspension is pretty annoying. I'll probably look into replacing springs later too.
