Difference Between 4X4 and Prerunner

Who Knows The Difference Between 4X4 and Prerunner? I get asked this question all the time. I've been a 4x4 dude all my life but I decided to try something different and go with a fast offroad setup or Prerunner. This doesn't require 4WD as the truck is not intended to climb steep hills. It does however require a long travel suspension setup as I have in the front. My truck sits a little high right now but when the rear end is complete I'll drop her down with the turn of a spanner and start hammerin. Let's hear what you have to say.

Isn't a pre-runner an offroad tuned 2WD?

The I see a prerunner is a truck with a beefed up suspension without a T-case, front diff and drive line. You can get a crap load of travel out of a 2wd front end when you dont have to mess with drive line angles. An another thing they are lighter. But thats just me

What Truck Are You Going To Start With? I Had A 2005 Tacoma Trd Access Cab With The 265 Hp V6. I Think The Hp To Weight Ratio Would Be Better Than The Tundra, Although I Don't Know About The Parts Avalibality I Think A 2wd Model Would Make A Great Pre Runner

My 07 dude! Like I said, all I have to do is soften the rear end and drop it into into the wheel wells. Taco's are cool but small. The new Tundra power to weight ratio is perfect, I just need to make sure I have the right weight front coils. When I drop it I'll for sure have to go up in weight on the coils.

How Much Longer Are Your Coilovers Than Stock And How Much Travel Do You Have In Front? The Rear Is Going To Be Limited With Stock Set Up. What Do You Have In Mind For That? Years Back I Built A Ratchet Type Rear Shackle That Gave 1-1 1/2 Lift And Allowed The Rear End To Drop Twice As Far. Then All You Need Is The Shocks With With The Right Travel And Some Limit Straps. It Worked Pretty Good.

I have quite a bit of front travel but not sure exactly how much. Deaver has some ideas for my rear end and we're tossin em around. Take a look at the front end.

Thats Friggin Cool. Don't Look Like You Can Lower The Front More Than 2 Inchs Or So Before You Lose Your Up Travel On The Upper Arm, You Could Have To Shorten The Knuckle Or Make Your Stock Ones Longer To Match Your Needs. I Would Like Longer Lower A- Arms, Axles, Tie Rods And Knuckles. Then You Could Get Some Travel And Still Have 4x4.

4x4, any vehicle with 4 wheels and a drive system powering all 4

A pre-runner, the normal definition would be any vehicle used by a race team to inspect and pre run a race course. Any vehicle that is capable of covering the course. The vehicles are normally street legal, and designed to be comfortable for the driver.

If you want to build a rig in a desert racing style, it can be 2 or 4wd, anything you want. I would personally go with a nice long travel suspension, 4wd, to make sure you can get home.

The most important thing is that you have fun building, working on, and driving it. Other than that, it can be whatever yo want.
