It could have been BS too. I haven't heard anyone on this site complain about this.
Werd... now everyone has a problem...

I've rarely, if ever, trusted the words from a customer service rep's mouth, no matter what the product. These guys read from 3-ring binders.
See why I don't listen to them? The info is on their web site for crying out loud.

I agree, and so does Mr. Toyoda in an earlier statement.
I have to wonder about the brake override they're proposing (a few other manufacturers are already doing this), and am wondering how it'll affect the overall functionality of the enthusiastic 4x4 Tundra owner, if they apply it to them in future models...
"The brake override system will be made standard equipment throughout the Toyota and Lexus product lines starting with January 2010 production of ES350 and Camry and is scheduled to be incorporated into new production of most models by the end of 2010."

Hey everyone, there sure is a lot of reading about the Toyota recalls. I have a 08' crewmax, had it for 2 years and no problems. when the 1st recall about the floor mat was announced last year, like some of you I checked it out and there was no way my floor mats could get stuck under the pedal. I have the OEM mat which connects to the two hooks, and I have a heavy duty thick floor mat on top of the OEM, and not once have I had problem. So I haven't removed the mats.
I don't drive my Tundra everyday. Sometimes it sits for a week w/out being driven. About a month ago I took the truck out for a weekend drive, this was after it sat in the driveway for about a week. The only issue I noticed is when I would press down on the gas pedal the truck would take off as if I was pushing all the way down on the pedal, and when I removed my foot the accerleration would stop. So it wasn't getting stuck. During the course of that day this happened about 10 times, and I specifically recall pushing down slowly on the pedal and it would still yerk the truck and take off as if I was pressing down all the way. Eventually it stopped. I drove it the next day and nothing. It was fine, no fast take offs no jerking at take offs. I took it to the dealer for the regular scheduled service and asked them to check this out as well and they found no problems. Their only respose was, "you need to remove the driver side floor mats", and my response was, "its nowhere near the gas pedal, so why would I remove it". I still haven't removed it.
Today, I called 3 Toyota dealers in my area, all of which asked for my VIN#, and all said that my truck is affected by the floor mat recall, as well as, the gas pedal recall replacement. BUT, that they ran out of the pedal replacement and that there is a national back order for the parts.
Oh well! I'll just keep driving the Tundra, and monitor the news. On a slightly different note. Do you believe these recalls will drastically affect the value of these Tundras?

LATUNDRA, I think it has affected the value of the Tundra, for new ones and especially used ones; however, I have no proof. From a supply and demand perspective, if you were an average person watching all of the coverage (not a TT.net member reading the forum posts), what would make you want to get the Tundra or what would make you want to keep the Tundra? A reduction in people with a reason to want to get a Tundra (i.e., a reduction in demand) coupled with a reduction in people who want to keep a Tundra (i.e., an increase in supply) will yield a lower price than before the event occured. The one saving grace may be the fact Toyota stopped making the Tundra (i.e., not increasing supply to a market with lowering demand) during this issue and the ongoing fallout.
The word in your question that I can't quantify for is "drastically". IMO, a greater than 10% drop in value in less than 6 months (2 weeks in this case) is drastic! We'll have to see what the major industry analysts (auction houses, KBB, Edmunds, etc) say about the value of Tundra after this even.

I have an 08 white Tundra with new authorized paint job ( another post) and the pedal has stuck on me three times so far. First time i thought it was the floor mat. I have weather techs and all weather on top of them. Ok my fault. Slid the mat back and went on. Second time, similar situation but the mat was not close. HHmmm. the third time i was in a hurry to get home, road was blocked by semi, u turned and nailed it, hits baout 65 and i let off, but the truck doesn't. i'm headed into a curve so i hit the brakes and she is still climbing hard. Foot on the brake and stabbing the accelelarator pedal hard to release. no good. shifted into neutral at 79mph mid curve. All kinds of stuff went to happening with the antilock brakes and the engine screaming. heck of ride. I think it's the electrocincs and not the pedal sticking by friction. my 2 cents.

UPDATE: IMPORTANT TOYOTA RECALL INFORMATION
February 5, 2010
Dear Valued Longo Toyota Guest,
We have great news! We are now receiving parts on a daily basis to fix all of the vehicles affected by the sticky pedal recall. Longo Toyota has decided to stay open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to repair all recalled vehicles on the spot. With over 70 trained technicians to complete these repairs, we can handle a large volume of guests quickly.
Jim Lentz, Toyota Motor Sales President and COO, wrote a letter which appears in today's L.A. Times and in other major newspapers across the country. The most important part of the message to Toyota owners is:
"If you are not experiencing any issues with your accelerator pedal, we are confident that your vehicle is safe to drive. If your accelerator pedal becomes harder to depress than normal or slower to return, please contact your dealer without delay." (http://www.toyota.com/recall/ToyotaCustomerLetter.pdf)
We want to assure you that Toyota is 100% confident that they have found a permanent fix for all vehicles affected. Below is a video link that explains the sticky pedal repair. I also included a link to the recall homepage for the latest updates from Toyota.
thanks Minoy, i also recieved the same notice from Longo, and because I had experienced what i did with my truck I decided to take it to Longo at 4am this morning and they added the reinforcement piece. It took about an hour and got this out of the way.

I have not experienced the “gas pedal problem” but I will bet it will be a bug in their computer program. There is probably a very specific set of circumstances such as 7 different sensors reading in a certain way that the computer calls for the engine to run faster. Something such as the stability control freaking out. Since there is not a mechanical problem where an accident investigator can point to a broken widget, it would almost be impossible for you to prove the vehicle was at fault and it also would be impossible for Toyota to prove it was not at fault.
