Toyota Tundra woes "shame" automaker
![]() Speaking with Automotive News at the Tokyo Motor Show, ToMoCo’s global manufacturing exec admitted that problems with the automaker’s full-size pickup have caused “shame” within the company. Takeshi Uchiyamada cited the rapid expansion of Toyota’s production facilities, increased sales and issues with new products as being the major dilemmas facing the automaker, but that all these problems are being addressed. Recognizing the issue is half the battle, but time will tell whether or not Toyota’s break-neck pace will continue to hamper the Japanese firm’s growth. Toyota Tundra woes "shame" automaker |

we should all keep in mind that this show a high level of class with the toyota orginazation. Show me someone from the big three that would be willing to stand up in public and say anything like this. When I bought my truck I knew that no first run production vehicle has never been without its problems and I still held faith that this truck would be better that the others even with its faults. Show me some one from GM, Chrystler or Ford that would do anything other than lay blame for these types of issues. IMO Toyota builds great vehicles and my truck is one of the best.

I'm ready to buy a 08 Crewmax. I've been with Ford for many years and keep my trucks in excellent shape. I tend to keep them longer because they always hold up. I can no longer stand them being behind in power and inovations, but I have been reading a lot about quality issues with the tailgates and poor paint jobs. There have been reports of paint chipping and scratching easily, as well as thin body metal. I'm sold on the Tundra looks, power and immenities, but I'm really concerned about these issues. I don't want a truck that looks 10 years old before it's reached it's warranty. Should I have concerns?

I have had a 07 since march and work out of it, no problems in 12000 miles. As far as paint goes mine is black and still looks like the day i drove it off the lot! Tailgate, strong. I do flooring and have pulled a 150yrd (500-600lbs) roll of carpet to the end and drove out from under no big deal. One more note I put a airaid cold air intake and a flowmaster super 44 on and hit the strip and ran 8.7s in the 1/8 then took it to the dino and got # like 395hp and 410 fps, ford ant got notta on that!

The paint scratches easy, but so does every other automakers paint. Thank the EPA. new paints suck. Dents--thin metal...I dare say if all metals were not as easily dent as they were Dent doctor and many other business would not be as successful as they currently are. I do not think the new Tundra is the one keeping them in business.

To all,
Personally I don't care if it's a first year second or third. My 06 LT3 Ext Cab Silverado had two defects which GM wouldn't do a recall but left it to warranty. That was the headliner being cut short causing it to come down constantly. The second was the tail lights which GM went cheap and took the metal clamps off the plastic lens. Coming from the factory overtightened and cracked. Vibration caused them to fall off at any moment. A simple fix for both which I tell all GM owners a good roll of "Duct Tape". This was the third year and still having issues. So to me it don't matter. My 07 at 15,000 has one problem which occured on the 3rd of this month is the remote passenger mirror doesn't like to work sometimes. I'll take that problem to the bank if that's all I get. I went through hell with my last two trucks so this is cake so far as I'm concerned. |
