Tundra 5.7 Engine Limiter???

I just broke my 5.7 engine in last night so I ran it up to speed a few times to see what she'd do. The engine was balls out and running great with all the positive G-Force of a space shuttle launch... That was until I hit 110 mph. Then it was like someone just pulled the plug. It immediately felt like the computer was retarding the timing severely, or the engine was suddenly starved for fuel... Basically, it felt like there was a limiter on the engine.

I know it wasn't the knock sensors because I'd recently tanked up on 91 octane, mixed with about half a tank of 88 octane, and the engine showed no signs of knock.

I did install some mods a few days ago; like adding a cat-back and CAI. I don't even have 200 miles on the re-set computer since I installed the mods, so I'm wondering if that's what's causing it.

Whatever it was it was weird! I ran it four times in a row, and every time it was like hitting a brick wall as soon as I hit 110. I couldn't get a single mph more.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Yes all new tundras have the speed limiter. Not much we can do about it.

Don't know if this is true or not, but brother in law of mine who owns his own auto shop and always has the latest, greatest gadgets told me he could use a new programer he got to link to my Tundra computer... from there he can access a lot of the factory settings like the speed limiter, seat belt buzzer, etc. and turn them off or on!

He even went so far as to say that he may find certain options on the truck from the factory that are installed but "turned" off like alarm etc.

Supposed to take the truck in to the shop in about a week or so... Hope this will actually work on the Tundras... Will let you know all know if works and what brand etc.

Man, that would be sweet! If there's anything out there that'll let the ponies run free, I want it. There are times when I'd like to break the sound barrier.

Thanks for your post, and be sure to come back and give us the details if it's true.

Have not been able to try it out yet, but...word on the street is that the high end engine scan tool (OBD 2)? should be able to remove the limiter and the seat belt chime etc.

My truck was in the body shop for a while because some ahole hit my back bumper. I should be able to hook up my truck up soon.

Does anybody know if its true?

Because when that smart a** little turd in the Camaro or Mustang pulls up and feels froggy, you don't get bogged down 110 due to blocked top end. If I could jump the limit up 20 or 30 mph or just remove it completely that would be freakin wild!! I would love to see just how fast this truck would really go, all out.

I've been racing cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles since I was 17... It's in the blood.

I'd also like to take my truck out to Bonneville during speed week and find out what the ultimate top end is with my mods.

Why is it I wonder that some top at 110, some at 115 and others at 120?? Mine tops at 110. I'd heard of others at 115 (can be seen on youtube actually), never seen 120 though. I thought originally that the US models were topping at 115 and the Canadian models (like mine) top at 110 (178km/h). Seems kind of odd for a mfg to have so many different limits on the same basic truck. I wonder if it goes by model line, like reg. cab, d-cab and crew max?
