How to activate your alarm on your 5.7 Tundra.

If you have a 5.7 and the Keyless Remote you have an alarm system from the factory however it may not be activated.

Simple test to see if you have an activated alarm:
  1. Get inside your truck.
  2. Lock the truck by using the Remote.
  3. Wait at least 45 seconds.
  4. Open the door from the inside by using the handle, do not use the remote to unlock and get out.

If the horn sounds and the lights start flashing as if you pushed the panic button then your alarm has been activated.

In most cases though, nothing happens. We get calls all the time from folks that have thought they had an alarm on their truck but do not. When they go to their local dealer even many dealers do not know that they can simply activate the alarm.

How to activate your alarm: It is strongly suggested that you complete your security system by adding the Toyota OEM Glass Break Sensor, our sale price is $109.00. You can look it up on our site TRD Toyota-Scion Performance Parts Accessories from Sparks Toyota-Scion and put in part number 08586-0C890 in the search box on the left side of the page. From there you will get detailed info regarding this part as well as the instructions for installation and activation of the GBS and Alarm System.

If you have more questions about this please post them here and we'll do out best to answer them for you!

Thanks,

Ok, So I tried this testing as suggested, waited 2 min inside the truck to make sure. Opened the door, nothing happened. So I read the PDF file about the install of the GBS and activating the alarm.

My question is... Am I understanding it right that in order to activate, I would need the dealer to do it?

I just checked my truck and, as a complete surprise given their lack of attention to detail, my dealer actually did activate this before I took delivery. Thanks for the thread Jamie. The Platinum's come standard with the GBS.

I guess this will most likely vary by dealer, but if I were to just ask the dealer when I am up there getting an oil change to activate it, is this something they will do?

Nice! If the factory theft deterrent is already activated and you add the glass break sensor, do you still have to take it to the dealer to make the sensor functional?

Scratch that. I just read the 24 page installation PDF and
answered my own question.

They should. Bring the .pdf instructions along with you just in case they don't have them. The instructions are on the trdsparks website for the p/n Jamie referenced above.

Ok, I will give that a try... I am about 1k miles away from an oil change, so when I run up there I will ask them to do it.

Most dealerships will tell you it can't be done, or you need the GBS. Any 2nd gen Tundra with a V8 has this alarm and it can be activated without the GBS. It comes activated on the Limiteds and Platinums.

So I guess I should be prepared for a fight Well, I looked up the Techstream diagnostic tools, they were pricey!! So I was hoping they would do if for me at the dealership. If not, I am thinking about getting a remote start/alarm anyway, so it would not be a big deal if the refuse to do it.

Thats the best thing to do. Get that GB Sensor and have the dealer do it in one go. After the GB is installed all they have to do is turn it on.

Wow I already got the alarm.... now I just need my local dealership to tell me they can do it. How much should I estimate them to charge. I'm waiting on a manager to call me back...

I'd like to know this too. Seems it should cost nothing if the truck already has it. Should be activated from the factory.
