Tundra Rebate Change in June?
Our Tundra CM is arriving today or tomorrow. When we ordered it in April, the rebate was $2,750; and the dealer said they thought the amount wouldn't change in May. But, it went up $250 to $3,000 (which is good through 06/02/08).
Now, with the media reporting that truck sales are down around 20% and the US automakers discounting pickups heavily, I think there's a good possibility that the rebate will increase in June. Has anyone heard what is coming up on June 3rd? -- Should I delay accepting the truck a couple of days to take advantage of a new rebate amount, or am I risking losing the current rebate? |

since my wife works at the tundra plant they seem to hear about things like that as well as out local dealers. the salesmanager said he expected the rebate to be the same for another few weeks..i was scared to order a truck and not get the rebate if it didnt show up in time. chevrolet bouces their rebates around and one month they offer 0 percent and then the next nothing...it just wasnt worth it to me to loose the 0 percent or $6500 savings so i dealer traded one.

Our Tundra arrived this afternoon, but we've decided to wait until next Tuesday to pick it up, to see if there is an increase in the rebate.
We went down to the dealer to look it over this evening, and it was really hard to drive away and leave it there. We just wanted to make sure all of the options we ordered were installed. It looked like it had everything that we ordered. Still had the plastic wrap on the hood and roof. We ordered the TRD Offroad Package, so I checked the spare to see if it was the same size as the rest of the tires -- It wasn't. Dealer says it comes this way. I am trying to get them to put another tire on the spare, but looks like I may have to buy one after we take delivery. What is everyone else doing about this? Maybe we should just look at it like a "compact spare" for regular cars, and just hope we never have to put it on the ground. Can't wait for Tuesday. Wish we had it for a weekend roadtrip! |

Our Tundra arrived last Thursday, 05/29/08; but we waited until yesterday, 06/03, to close, to see if the rebate would go up.
The wait over the weekend was a little nerve-racking, but it paid off -- the rebate on Tundras went up from $3,000 to $4,500. We were expecting the amount to either stay the same, or perhaps go up another $250 (like at the first of May) or $500. However, the last day or two we were more afraid of the remote possibility of the rebate ending; so what a great surprise to have it go up so much. We drove our new Tundra home late yesterday -- what an improvement over Hal (our 1978 Chevy, 3/4-ton crewcab, with a 454 v8), though we have a lot of memories from adventures (and breakdowns) over the years. Now, I hope the rebate doesn't increase on July 4th and Labor day, and don't forget the holidays. However, by then, we will have probably gotten enough enjoyment out of driving the new Tundra to figure it was worth the difference. Can't believe the difference in power, versus Hal -- and can't wait to take a roadtrip! Last edited by Phoenix : 06-04-2008 at 03:21 PM. |

Rebates help but, you gotta know how to haggle with trucks that are already on the lot, no special orders or requests and if your gonna make those try to throw em in after you got em down to the price you want. I got my '08 5.7L DC 4X4 TRD package Extra Mileage Option B Package and Leather for almost 10,000 off the sticker. Lists at 39,900 and I got it for 30,500.

The rebate is separate from financing. We financed through our credit union at 5.9% (slightly more for longer term). I think our final cost (which included sales tax and license) was about $8,000 under sticker.

You guys need my wife to go with you. I think she could make a business out of haggling with a dealer. The dealer was really eager to sell one off the lot and he deducted the price of some extras that were already on the truck because of her. She let me get them down as much as I could and then she took over and saved us another $2000. We laughed the whole way home.
Here are some tips. 1) Know what you can afford before you walk in the door. 2) It doesn't hurt to ask for anything, the worst they are going to say is "no." 3) Don't tell them a monthly payment, have it roughly figured out before you go. 4) If you don't need an extra, like a bedliner, tell them to either take it off or deduct it from the price. 5) The hardest part especially if you really want the truck that day, tell them you need to go to eat or something else (use your imagination) to think it over. and never take the truck if you go. Tell them you are taking your own vehicle. They find more ways(lower the cost) to get you to sign the paperwork before you leave. We got a Cold Pack, bedliner, and fender flares taken off the price of the Tundra because anytime the salesman balked we told him,"look we will just order one the way we want it." He changed his tune quickly because he wanted to get one off the lot. Hope this helps. |
