Help with pricing
Looking to purchase an "08 Tundra, which will actually be my first ever new car purchase. I'm looking @ the Tundra grade 4x2, slate metallic and debating on the 4.7 or the 5.7. I haven't gotten into pricing with the dealer yet, just did a test drive so far. I'm leaning to the 5.7 engine which the printout of the estimate pricing he gave me is:
MSRP $28906 options Toyoguard Protection $699 and Styled steel wheels $110=$909 Delv, proc and handling = $735 Dealer Fees= $459 Total = $31,009 Has a $3500 rebate with a sale sticker in the window for $25999 plus destination ( and I assume the tax and dealer prep, though it doesn't say) I will probably need the take the special financing over the rebate so my question is what should I look to pay out the door for the truck without the rebate? Also any opinions on the 5.7 over the 4.7? Thanks for any help! |

Without question, I would go with the 5.7. Regardless whether you get the Tundra Grade, SR5 or Limited, you will most certainly appreciate the power and extra value you get from the 5.7. As to price, I would check around online to see what you can find. I think the $31k price is a little high for a 4x2.

Bamafan,
I agree look at edmunds.com Also look at the articles at edmunds, this explain dealer hold back and the incentaves that the dealer gets from "toyota" they get these on a quarterly basis depending on what they have sold. Take there price and discount it by say $3000.00, and remember this once you make them an offer it is hard to go down, so offer them less you can always go up if you have to. Also ask them for the dealer invoice, if they will let you see it. If they do then look at the date it was printed, it should not be the same day you asked for it. I would get the 5.7 as it gets better gas mileage then the 4.7 and you get a 6 speed auto. Then right before you get out of the deal remember to ask them to activate the alarm for you for free. Look on the other post and see there is a PDF file that you can print. As for the TOYO guard, I would ask Mickey what he thinks as he got it.

well about the deciding which engine to get. we all know it is a fact that the 5.7L is better than the 4.7L, but I think everything depends on yuor needs and budget. In my case i decided to get the 4.7L, b/c I do lot of city driving, I have nothing to tow, and I dont use the truck for heavy work. I managed to get a great deal on the 4.7 that I could never get by negotionating the 5.7. I even got some extra options, instead of getting the 5.7L without all the specs I really wanted. I know the 5.7 is a beast, but certainly the 4.7 does a good job too.
your happiness is all that counts. GL |

Bamafan,
First take the invoice price, minus any rebate then take at least 3000.00 off that price. Remember that any rebate are given to the dealer from the manfacture so that free money for them any way. Also look to make sure they have not added anything as a dealer option and try to charge you for it, unless you really want that option. If you do then negotiate the price with them. Also go in with you own calculator and do your own figures, that makes the saleman nervirous. And do not give them any down payment unless you really want to. If you are going to give a down payment don't tell them untell you get the best price on the truck first. Mickey is one of the guys that post on tundratalk.net just search for him you will see him.

I thought I was sold on the slate metallic but the more I've looked at it, it has a bluish hue to it that I'm not crazy about. I've talked to the salesman about other colors and maybe ordering one. He's telling me that Toyota has downgraded some options on the Tundra grade and that he with new orders or builds it will lose Cruise, Power mirrors and keyless entry. I'm going to call some other dealerships and check that out, but anybody here know anything about that?
Thanks guapo for the tips on pricing. Are peopling really getting deals that low....$3000 below invoice plus rebate? That's the other thing about maybe having to order a truck...losing the current incentives that are good thru 3/31 for now. |

I've gotten 2 quotes now from different dealerships.
# 1 is $25,431 out the door after rebate # 2 is $26,280 out the door after rebate. Haven't even begun any negotiating but if I'm understanding you correctly guapo, I need to ask for ~ $3000 below those quotes and negotiate some extra accesories out as well maybe. I know I would get a lot better deal on something they have on the lot, but is possible to get a good deal on on special order? And when do you get into pricing with that? |

Just to add my two cents, I basically have ordered the same truck CrewMax, Tundra Grade( I needed the bench seat up front), Salsa Red, 5.7l, towing package, Chrome bumper, Fog lights, Daytime Running Lights, and 18" wheels styled wheels. I went without the port options for an out the door price of $24,588. Given the options, I found that with a $3000 Dwn Payment, and TTL it was actually less expensive for me to take the rebate than to take the 0%, of course that is with 5% from Capital One.

I can't say they were on the truck because the truck is still at the factory, but I was negoitiating on a truck that was availble that had those options plus the port options. I couldnt see paying almost a grand on stuff i could get Cheaper.
The dealer had no prob making it happen w/o the port options. Thats how I got to $ 24588. Where are you? |

Hi guys,
I'm a noob here, but I thought I'd toss in my two cents. I have two suggestions for guys who want to save a lot of money in shopping for cars/trucks: 1) CarBuyingTips.com new car buying guide, avoiding dealer scams, new cars, used car buying These guys have a lot of good tips for buying cars in general. It's pretty detailed stuff, so sort through to the stuff you need to know. 2) Fighting Chance New Car Buying Guide - Buy or lease a new car with our car buying guide. Get new car invoice prices for most all vehicles. Buying a car? Don't do it without this car buying guide. I'd seen their advertisements, and I've often wondered how reliable were the soundbytes? Well... pretty good actually. It worked for me, and I'll recap (briefly). My car "died" Wednesday. I was planning on buying a truck when it died, so I had my eye on the Tundra for quite a while. I submitted my order to FC on Wed night. Had my packet e-mailed to me by Friday. Monday afternoon, I sent my letter to 19 dealers throughout my state/neighboring state. I got 11 "best" offers, one no thank, and a "I know what your doing" (whom I just asked if he wanted to sell a truck - he gave me a decent offer anyways). Bottom line: I met the dealer selling me the truck after no-kidding, not speaking to him more than a total of 15 minutes (and I even ordered/had them install nerf bars). The best part: no negotiation. Just straight-talk offers. All I can say, is that it was the best $35 I've ever spent to get $530 below invoice (which may not be awesome, but I didn't have to work too hard to get there) when I had hoped to just get near invoice. Its very straight forward and his strategies are dealer friendly no-nonsense no-hardball negotiations work strategies for saving you money. I didn't speak to a single dealer for more than about 10 minutes total (and like I said, I contacted 19) I can't tell you more, as I don't want to steal James Bragg's business. He could charge $50 bucks and I'd still pay it! But I've got a brand new 4 x 2 Black on Black '08 Tundra Class 5.7L DC for almost as cheap as I bought my wife's CRV three years ago. I need to buy her a mini-van now (I'm thinking Sienna), and I'm going to do Fighting Chance again. I'm feeling 10 feet tall right now. ![]() |

i dont know if i can really give any advise all i can tell you is work with them. hopefully they will work with you. i talked my guy down about $5000. the only real reason i could do that was because i had already bought a truck from the same salesman about 4 years earlier and i brought him that truck back in great shape as a trade in. so i got about a $40,000 tundra with my trade in of a 2003 tacoma double cab with about 40,000 miles on it for $17,500 out the door after taxes. and its a guarentee that i will go back to him again as long as he is still there the next time i want to get another new toyota.
