Next Generation?
Interesting post: (copy/pasted)
Whatever happened to people called men is beside me. These people, now an endangered species it seems, were tough. Not just physically tough, but mentally as well. They didn’t need a pat on the back or a hug from their parents to feel like every meaningless accomplishment was worth a shit. They fact that they did it was enough for them. Now these fawning parasites need their friends, their parents, even anonymous commenters on the internet to tell them that they mean something. But it’s not their fault is it? No, they blame the older generation. I blame the one that raised them. To them it’s the generations of the 60’s and 70’s that ruined the future of this country. The only thing that’s ruining anything is these punks sycophantic whining. It has been said before that a man is only as good as the work he does. These slackers have the same work ethic as a narcoleptic sloth on a bender. An honest day’s living means nothing to them and they’re never satisfied with what they have. They want instant gratification in everything they do. There’s no respect in their culture either. Elders and people in a position of authority deserve respect. Today's youth seem to think that respect is not picking their nose when someone is talking to them. They talk back, talk out of line, and flap their gums with more useless nonsense than a drunken car salesman. To top it off, these supposed men are absolutely flippin stupid. It’s cool to not know things. It’s cool to have no common sense. It’s cool to be a primate. Chimpanzees are vastly more cultured and intelligent. All personality issues aside, men today are incapable of dressing and acting like real men. Bed-head hair styles, girl pants, leather and studs everywhere. It’s a wonder they don’t just put on makeup and call it a day. Oh wait, some of them already do that. I don’t know exactly when not taking care of yourself became hip, but it disgusts me that it even made it into a subculture no less mainstream fashion. They have no etiquette either. They dress like bums, eat like bums, and can't possibly begin to appreciate the finer things in life. They don't know the difference between Chianti and Cabernet, and the thought of wearing a suit is as foreign as Palau. I see kids come into restaurants all the time with their hats on. The hat stays on through the whole meal and is still on when they tromp out the door. And what’s worse is they have no drive! These punks don't want to start a revolution or make the world a better place. They just want to listen to their Ipod, break things, post their antics on YouTube, and see how long they can ride on their parents' pocketbooks. With the exception of a very select few, today's men are content to just have an entry-level job, a place to live, a Prius, and plenty of money to buy beer and pizza. Unless you force them to do something, they don't do anything. And the worst part? They don't care. Their work ethic is non-existent. And they’re all victims of something. If they can’t do something, it’s oppression. If they don’t make the grade, they’re being picked on by the teacher. It’s never their fault. Cliff notes: We have an entire generation of worthless nothings on our hands destined to implode under their own weight. It’s going to be rough on the few of us that are competent and know how to live life, dragging the dead weight of our peers. |

OK, so I turn 40 this year. Does that make me someone you are referring to?
Seriously, my son (16) knows what it means to be a man because I have taught him the right way to act. He doesn't talk trash, drive like an idiot or wear a flipping hat in a restaurant. I guess you must say that today's men are a product of their father's influence. If we state that today's men are useless and unworthy of the title man, do we then have to say that we have failed? I work with the future men of our country in my job as a middle school principal. I set expectations for them and for the most part, they live up to the expectations I set for them. The ones who don't....well, they find out what it is like to have a former Marine breathing down their neck day in and day out. To post a blanket statement about the men of today serves only to support the undeniable fact that fathers are failing their sons. It is time that fathers step up to the plate and perform their duty as role model. Now....back to the Tundra. I hope I have taught my son well enough that he can get a college degree and get a Tundra so he can drive like me.....wait, maybe he shouldn't drive like I do. |
