Yeah I know. As long as I have a choice I wont buy it. Just like I wont buy Citgo gas or go into any store displaying a Citgo sign. I was offered a job at a Citgo refinery for a fairly good increase in wages and I turned that down too.

Yes prices went up a little, but would you rather see the farmers in Iowa making a decent living finally or line the pockets of some Saudia Arabian prince?

It does get less mileage than gas, but costs much less than gas. If it gets half the mileage of gas, but costs a third as much - isn't that better?

Not entirely sure about the subsidy thing, but I would think that it is..... is oil? Cheese? Chrysler? wind turbines? efficient windows? the fact is that the US government has its hands in just about everything - either through direct subsidies, taxes, tarrifs, import restrictions, etc... they "help out" a lot of industries.
E85 does not cost a third less ! Yes it's subsidized by the government just like the farmers are .

What are you perpetuating? You are perpetuating half truths, misleadign truths and sometimes outright lies that are carefully fed to you by people who have an interest in you believing them. You are making it less likely that the citizens of this country will get smart and realize who their friends are (hint - it's not the "US" oil companies). I used to argue the same things you are - till I realized that I may be wrong and hurting hte things that I purport to support. When I looked into the subject a little deeper, I came to the realization that I was being a patsy for a bunch of entities that don't have my, or the US's best interest at heart. Choose your side carfully, it is important.

Anyway - What it really boils down to is - Why would you support OPEC over the American farmer.

You said that E 85 does not cost a third less.... Please note that I said IF - not that it was a third. Maybe it bears more research. I haven't done all of the math involved - but luckily this person has:

The New Atlantis » Achieving Energy Victory

"For sugar, that cost is about $1 per gallon, while for corn it is around $1.50 per gallon (without any subsidy). Ethanol has about two-thirds the energy value per gallon as gasoline, so these prices correspond to gasoline sold at $1.50 and $2.25 per gallon, respectively (before taxes—most gasoline sold in the United States is taxed about $0.50 per gallon). These gasoline prices, in turn, correspond to oil priced at $36 and $54 per barrel."

Pretty close to a third.

As far as there being an impact on the price of food (as if farmers making money is somehow a bad thing): A $3 box of corn flakes nets the farmer 8 cents. Care to guess how much the cost of fuel to transport it is? The oil companies/producers are much more responsible for the increased price point of food than farmers. Also is the fact that prior to this, 30% of farmland was not used to grow anything. Also also is the fact that many emerging economies want to eat better now, greatly increasing the demand for food. Many, many more things wrong with your implication, but I will stop there.

Why would you want to blame the American farmer? Hmm do you think any powerful people have any interest in getting you to bad mouth ethanol?

The oil producers may or may not want more oil coming on the market. Their is a sweet spot that they make the most profits at - that spot may be higher or lower than current production. This is elementary economics, which I realize a lot of people may not have had, but it is not a disputable item - it is a given in any intro economics book.

Yes - I agree that the last 7.5 years are the worst thing for the Rep party and the US.

15 month ago most people thought McCain would not even make it into the final round!
Most republicans saw McCain as a left wing republican, actually more a liberal!
How things change!!

smed , it's hard to defend a farm bill that pays the rich more than the poor farmers .
By the way your sugar ethanol is'nt even being produced on the scale of corn based ethanol .
Here is how much corn is used to make one gallon of the stuff HowStuffWorks "How much corn would I need to grow in order to produce enough et"

I am no patsy for any party any more , read the links I posted , they are from news papers with decent reps.
I'm looking out for myself and family , when I see and read all the money , and jobs leaving our country everyday it makes me mad as hell .
I live in a farming community so it's no beef with the farmers I have , it's the policies of our gov. to subsidize everything and everybody .
There is more to the corn prices as well , read the USDA crop report and you'll see less corn being grown in the last 2 years per acre not more .
This Admin has helped break our backs as a Nation and has made it in History as the Worst in my book .
I'm not saying either party will be better than the other , it's our own fault for voting the same people into government term after term . Then watching them all pi$$ on our backs once they get to washington and start getting thier share of lobbyist money .
It's hard to believe that at one time our reps. in goverment used to come around thier own districts at least 1 day a month and hold town meetings . Now you only see them when it's time for re-election , or get an invite to a fund raiser .
I'm fed up with all those crooks and paying thier big fat salaries to do nothing but bicker back and forth and point fingers .

I would hope that most of you are too ?
Unless the whole process in Washington changes this country will continue it's slide down the slippery slope . Like I said it does'nt matter which party is in office it will continue as before until we start sending better people from our states to Washington .
Peace !

If OBAMA wins I'm screwed...he hates the military and does not even show respect to the national anthem or US flag.

By taxing the oil companies he is going to drive up the cost of oil higher and cause the US to import even more oil! Jimmy Carter did the same thing and US oil production dropped to an all time low. I see that happening again. By taxing oil companies, they will produce less! C'mon OBAMA, pay attention...his solution to anything is inflate your tires. He wants to put bandaids on bullet wounds!

Lots -o- promises

I received this from my Grandpa - it sounded like it was supposed to be a true story, but I think it is just a joke. Anyway, I thought it was funny.

'WalkingEagle' Senator BARACK OBAMA was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upstate New York HE spoke for almost an hour on HIS future plans for increasing every NativeAmerican's present standard of living, should HE one day become thePresident.

HE referred to his career as a Senator, how he had signed 'YES'for every Indian issue that came to his desk for approval. Although theSenator was vague on the details of his plan, he seemed most enthusiasticabout his future ideas for helping his 'red sisters and brothers'.

At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented the Senator with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name - Walking Eagle.

The proud Senator then departed in his motorcade, waving to the crowds.

A news reporter later inquired to the group of chiefs of how they came toselect the new name given to the Senator.

They explained that Walking Eagleis the name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly.
