Economy... How are you doing?

How is everyone faring with the current economy?

Anyone got laid off? potential for job loss?

Are you cutting back spending money on your Tundra because of fears of recession?

Are you spending, saving or investing your money?

Figure i would throw this out there and see what i get back...

Well I work full time for the Idaho Army National Guard, so I'm doing ok so far. Gas prices are killing me though. Luckily I have 2 HUMVEE's and a 2-1/2 LMTV Truck to drive for work. It costs anywhere from $70-80 to fill up a HUMVEE and the last time I filled up the 2-1/2 ton truck it cost $150 all of which is diesel. I drive 6 miles round trip to work everyday so it really doesn't matter if I drive my Tundra or my Jeep.

I just don't spend much money on luxury items anymore, I did however just pickup a 1989 Nissan 4x4 Pickup to run around in because I like to go up into the hills plus haul firewood, which I won't do in my Tundra because 1. its too big to get into some places, and 2. I don't want it full of scratches and dents. The nissan by the way is already 3 different colors and full of scratches, and dents so if I hit something who would know.

I am in California where gas is about $4.00 per gallon. I don't feel that bad since I just saw that Hawaii is beating California in gas prices on the news. I am in retail and we are seeing a big drop in customers. People are not spending and we are not making any money. It cost more to have employees for certain days than the sales the store makes. It is funny how media and politican say the gas price are so high because of global warming and lack of fuel. I have a quick question wasn't the price of fuel lower before we went to war?

Saving

Right now, we are counting our pennies, and selling stuff we don't need. Just waiting till May 16th when we get our stimulus check. I will stimulate the economy mostly on truck stuff, the rest will be for living decent until I get my raise. Gas here in Tucson, AZ is $3.09, not to brag or anything. I am used to $2.09.

For the first time in a decade, I'm credit card debit free! I"ve been doing a little too much spending but hey, someone's gotta try to balance out the economy. No fear of losing my job.

I got laid off about 4 months ago. I live in California and worked in Real Estate and you all know how that has been.

But I am young and decided to go back to school to teach. So, its not too bad.

No issues here so far. Gas and everything else is getting out of control. I get a monthly vehicle allowance for my personal vehicle even if I don't use it for business. I can also charge mileage when I drive my Tundra for business. My wife works for one of the largest wireless companies in the US and she just got a promotion that pays close to 100k per/year and I do about the same. Neither of us are at high risk for losing our jobs at the moment. The housing market in my area is still pretty strong and I owe less for my house than it is worth. We both have money in retirement accounts and we have a good chunk of money in our online high intrest savings account. We have no credit card debt, in fact we don't even have any credit cards. We are not spending more than we make. SO.........for now we are doing ok.

Well here in the Aloha State:

Gas is about 4 bucks plus a gallon, food is getting higher and higher. Construction has been slowing down as well as the housing market. Some people have started to curb their spending while others feel this is temporary.
Living in paradise is very, very expensive.

So far my job (and wife's job) has not been in jeopardy, but ya' never know...

Been cautious with my investments... Besides my 401K, CD's and high yielding accounts for me.

I feel like I'm doing about the same as I've ever been. However, I have been staying at home more because of the gas prices. I used to get in the car/truck and just go driving. I have no fear of losing my job because of the economy so no problems there. I do need to start investing more because I turned 40 this year and retirement will be here before I know it. I have been shopping for a motorcycle to run around on but haven't found anything yet. Mainly because I'm just saving and saving.

I am looking at this motorcycle here...HDT - Hayes Diversified Technologies - Motorcycle models but production has been delayed. This thing gets 100 mpg and is designed to be very durable. Check out the military models. The thing that sucks about it is the price of close to $20,000

im not too worried about losing my job, because there is always crime to fight. my main concern is they passed amendment 1 down here in florida so all the old people could save about $500 a year in their taxes on their homes, but they didnt realise that by doing that it is going to hurt everything else, like fire and police services, the schools, the government (like the court system).... so the courts just passed the new change in prices for fix it tickets here.... they used to be around $7.50, but now some of them are $54.00....... gotta love it.

That's cool. Yeah, That's funny how if you say you work for a cable company everyone immediately thinks you install cable. They don't realize everything that goes into it (Network Operation Centers, Data Centers (Server farms) , optical backbones.....etc..etc.)

I work on the IP side of the house (routing).
