I will not buy a dodge, but this feels like salt in the wound!

Where I live diesel costs 10% more than reg...Dodge is expecting close to 30 mpg on the hwy, which from the Tundra's 18 mpg, that is over a 60% increase in mpg and would net close to a 50% decrease in cost for driving on the highway.
I will not ever buy a dodge, but I really wanted to trade my 09 tundra for a 2013 or 14 tundra with a diesel.

the 30mpg they are talking about is in the jeep setting..not the 1500 setting...
"According to an early report, the decision to move ahead with production of the Ram 1500 diesel was made based on consumer demand. Ram CEO Fred Diaz is also cited as saying he expects the diesel-powered 1500 to be much more than a niche product; a strong indication that Ram is looking to further grow its sales to challenge Chevrolet, GMC and the long-reigning sales champ in the pickup segment, the Ford F150."
I guess Dodge listens to its current owners?
30mpg? Wow...in a truck? Now listen...I'll never own another Dodge again...but damn, you know that just sounds tempting

If Toyota came out with a diesel I don't think I would buy it. It's just not me. I love my 5.7 it's a beast and will work for everything I will ever need it for. And that 30 mpg will probably be for a single cab 2wd not to many people buy that truck. Just like the Ecoboost they don't get any better milage than our 5.7s in a 4wd with tow package.
Appears Toyota is OK with 100K unit sold a year. They will be able to keep that number till 2015, after that with everyone else having Di, 8 speed, some with diesels...
Toyota will have something new drivetrain wise in 2015, if not, they will have plenty of excess production to make those Taco's.

So you guys are going to tell me with a straight face, that a bunch of guys aren't going to run out and get one of those 1/2 ton diesels, even if it is in a p.o.s. Dodge?
I don't really know much about diesels, don't need one. But it seems that having a 1/2 ton truck with a diesel on the market would be a pretty big deal?
And plus, it's a damn dodge, you know they'll slap a 100k mile warranty on it what could go wrong?

i'd rather stick with a gas engine.to many things can go wrong with a diesel engine, and i would know that for a fact since i've been working on them for the last 13+ years.i especially like all the cummins guys that are taking all the emissions stuff of the new ram's.gonna be a bitch for them come inspection time or if they use it for buisness and hit a D.O.T. check point on the highway.
and like a couple of others have said,if its the V6,then 30+ MPG's in a 1500 4WD isn't gonna happen.i mean cummins is a decent diesel engine and all,but thats a lot of extra weight to get moving.i have a feeling this isn't gonna sell as much as they're projecting it to.
