not that we want to know your tag #.....what can someone do with it was the point...I think.. I've also wondered this..
Same reason people don't usually use their real name as their handle, or post their home address in their signature. Why share more than you need to? Multiple that by the fact a lot of users share their handle between different sites.
Lets say I'm talking about the kick-ass 55" OLED TV I just bought, but I'm not going to be able to watch it because I'm away for the weekend with the family. It doesn't take a genius to get my address from my license number.
Too many people are so blasé about their personal information.

You'd be amazed at what an internet weirdo/stalker can do with a $10 subscription to a stalker site
Agreed, no need to show your license plate number, though I'm pretty sure its a little more difficult/expensive to do a reverse lookup with a plate number, unless you are, or know someone with LEO ties, and even then, its a big no-no....or so I've heard.
Most of us are pretty easy to find, just based on info we put in various places online. Screen names, email addresses alone can give you everything you need to know, most of the time. With very little effort, you can find out more and more, the more you dig.

Someone with access to the right databases, or who knows someone with it, can take a plate number and find out among other things where you live, what your phone number is, who lives with you, what their personal information is, where you have lived in the past, and basic credit info just to name a few things off the top of my head.
Hell someone who has all that stuff and is good with computers could figure it out just from IP addresses and crap even if you don't post plate numbers. But why give them info that will just make it easier. People can give personal info in PMs to other members that they trust and know, but there is no sense in leaving it out there for anybody who signs up for a free site membership to see. It just gives more tools to a wack job who decides he doesn't like what you have to say and wants to mess with you personally. That DOES happen.

If they do this I would gladly sit at the green light behind the lady checking her hair, adjusting the radio, applying makeup, talking on the phone, or daydreaming all day without a complaint.

Why do you guys call it a tag? Out here it's called a plate.
Actually, that website Spokeo.com scares the CRAP out of me. IDK if plate numbers help on that site, but just knowing a persons name and which county they live in can lead to a pic of their house courtesy of Google Earth, along with their annual income and family tree. Don't ask why I know about it...
