Funny, there was a police helicopter circling my house last night. Luckily, it was shining the light down a block away, but it started to freak us out a little. I got a gun out just in case some renegade tried to come in through our back door. I told my wife we'd be in trouble if the cops came in by mistake.

I also don't worry about posting my plate online fwiw.

Yes, but you also drive in the far left lane with your left signal blinking, going 20 under the posted limit.

Hell someone who has all that stuff and is good with computers could figure it out just from IP addresses and crap even if you don't post plate numbers. But why give them info that will just make it easier. People can give personal info in PMs to other members that they trust and know, but there is no sense in leaving it out there for anybody who signs up for a free site membership to see. It just gives more tools to a wack job who decides he doesn't like what you have to say and wants to mess with you personally. That DOES happen.
I'm not arguing your points but lets think about this for a second. Anyone driving a really nice BMW or Porsche would be an easy target for someone who wanted to take down their plate number at the mall and find out where there (more than likely) really nice house is. I'm not so sure that I believe it's as easy as you make it sound.

Let's say I plan to go rob a bank in a stolen 2011 DC SR5 black. Of course I don't want the cops looking for the truck I am driving, I want to send them on a wild goose chase. I can look on Tundra forum, find a picture of your truck and get your plate number. Then I just do a little photoshop work to make a printout of Florida plates with your license plate number and stick it over my plate. Your truck isn't reported stolen so any check on the plate number comes up fine. Go rob the bank with your plate number in plain view. Take off and then remove the fake paper plate printout down the road. Cops show up at your house and arrest you for a bank robbery while I find some place to spend my new money.

Or say I have a Tundra but I want some nice mods for the Tundra at a five finger discount. You are someone who loves to mod their truck and show off their mods on the forum. It's window shopping from home for thieves. I see your pics, love your wheels and nerf bars and see that you are in the next town down the road. I look up your plates and get your address. Now I know where to go shopping for parts for my truck. People also talk about vacations and whatever else on forums and facebook. That would give me a great time to do my shopping and know when you leave and when you get back. All done from the comfort of my home and you are none the wiser. Thanks for the free mods, have a safe trip.
