OP, if your still undecided, go to someplace like Best Buy when it isn't busy and ask them to run standard definition on the Visio so you can see how well the picture upconverts to 720/1080i via interpolation.

Also, LCD TV burn in does occur, but it's rare and occurs when the LCD pixel doesn't turn completely off.

I returned a Sharp LC-60C6400U 60" cus they SUCK at sports. Football is barely watchable out of the box. I bought a Vizio M650vse and are happy with it. Sams have the same tv on sale for black friday for $998. If you want info on this TV read this thread and you can search there for any TV model

Official Vizio M650VSE Owners Thread!

Plasmas have a better picture than led TVs. Panasonic and Samsung are on top for picture quality. Also plasmas look good from any angle while led Tvs loose some quality if you watch in an angle.

LCD pixels die, they stay whatever color they were when they die ie: red, blue , green or white. Plasma burn plasma gas and will dim or fade over time. Warrenty doesn't cover plasma fade and it is hard to get a few dead pixels covered. Just food for thought on the longevity of tv's. They are not leant to last as long as big screens and old CRT tube tv's

Now your obligated to go fix that wikipedia entry someone posted since I know you've fixed TVs.

Now why is a full array LED backlit screen much more expensive then an edge lit one and is the cost justified?

A pixel dying and burn in are two different things. That was pretty accurate. When one pixel dies in a LCD it is the size of a pen tip, one pixel. One pixel will be annoying but a warrenty company won't do anything. If they die in a bunch you have a chance of getting a replacement. I forget the percentage but was different percentages for the MAIN viewing area and the sides.
Led TVs were just coming out when I left the field. Led's are supposed to last longer then LCD's...Mitsubishi DLP have better picture quality then Amy plasma or led/LCD but they are not flat so they are history. They ran off a five color wheel and brought colors to life more then three color tv's

Vizios have excellent reviews. They are the most bang for you buck. They are the Hyundai of the flat screen tv world. Highly rated picture quality but less techno bells and whistles. Before you buy, I have seen ads for 60" Sharp Aquos LED for that price. I think Sharp is top tier LED tv maker.

That's why I put my couch in front of my lcd/led tv, instead of behind it or beside it

I don't want to embarress myself any more than I normally do but based on everything I have been reading, I need a 60" Backlit, LED and I need to spend between 1200 and 1500 dollars. That's where my investigation is leading me.

Okslim, you can get a nice tv for that price. My vizio was $1300 and probably will go down soon,

The first tv I ever owned was a GE 13" with rotory knobs. My ex wife left it and my clothes when she cleaned out our house. I remember having cable hooked up and getting shit faced, skipping work and watching Hooper.

plasmas have some issues - burn in and dark room

some are overblown - heat, weight, consumption

but you cannot beat a plasma picture in a dark room.

I have a 8 year old Samsung DLP 1080i 1 HDMI port that I paid $1700 for and has been through 2 bulbs and a color wheel already. I'm looking to upgrade soon. I think I want a big and cheap one without wireless or the apps.

Costco. They give you 90 days to returned and an extra year of warranty.
