But a lot of people are misguided, as to the history and true nature of the situation over there.
The truth is, the Isrealis are the war criminals and thugs. They are the aggressors and opressors and every attack on them has been a direct result of something unjust that they initiated.
I don't mean to be argumentative, I just know that if people knew the reality of our involvement with the middle east, their opinions would drastically change on how we should handle ourselves there and who we should/shouldn't be in bed with.
But even if everyone had a clear understanding, what determines our motives for who to be friends with, what to turn a blind eye to and what to allow to trickle through the media, to the American public, is still based in priorities.
Money?
global dominance?
morals?
national security?

Maybe you shouldn't have brought it up.
My parents were asshats and my mother let me drink from a bottle until I was 4 yrs old.
My oldest brother was about 13 at the time.
He decided to put an end to it one day.
He took my bottle from me and I stood there and cried as I watched him slice it in two, with a kitchen knife and then toss in in the trash.
Tramatic? A little. Did I throw a fit? a little. Did he catch shit from my mother for being a dick? You bet.
But I was over it by the next day and never wanted a bottle again and it was for my own good.
People need their mainstream media baba ripped out of their mouth and cut up.
You don't need to work for the state dept. to inquire and educate yourself on world news/history. It's all there. I don't watch fox or bbc or cnn.
If you wanna throw a fit and get snotty and take my comments personal, that's up to you. But that wasn't the intention of that post.

Israel is a sensitive topic. I don't usually get too much into it with people anymore. I have gotten into some really heated debates with a couple of Jewish friends over it. I only felt comfortable in those situations because these were people I was tight enough with that we could have these kinds of debates and get over it afterward without anybody carrying a grudge. i would never even discuss the topic with Jews I didn't know that well. When they go off about it I nod politely and keep my mouth shut.
It is an issue of right vs. right, not right vs. wrong. This is a vast over-simplification, but both sides have historical claims to the land that go back to Biblical times. The Jews were expelled a few thousand years ago by the Romans. They were mostly gone from the region for awhile, during which the area was inhabited by a succession of different peoples that were predecessors to the Arabs that were there when the most recent troubles started. In the late 19th/early 20th century there was a movement by the Jews to try to reclaim their historical homeland and create a state where they could live free of the persecution they were facing in most of the Western world. After WW2 the rest of the world carved some arbitrary lines through the place in the late 40s to try to settle things and and make everybody happy, sparking numerous other conflicts to try to redetermine borders, leading to where we are today. A shaky false peace intermittently broken up by conflict, with them surrounded on all sides by countries that hate them. If it were as simple as them going in and obliterating the bad guy and being done with it this would have happened a long time ago.
Nobody is leaving, and nobody will succeed in killing everybody on the other side. So the only realistic eventual resolution is a 2 state solution with some borders being re-drawn. But a good analogy would be if the person who lived in your house 2 or 3 owners ago decided to break in and live there again. Someone else handed them guns to help them out so you can't just kick them out. And someone told you the only fair solution would be you take half and they take half. It ain't gonna happen soon, and it won't happen easily.

They should pay extra registration feels and sales taxes on their vehicles and the government should cut me a check out of that pot based on my hourly wage. If they do this I would gladly sit at the green light behind the lady checking her hair, adjusting the radio, applying makeup, talking on the phone, or daydreaming all day without a complaint.

I'm not a history buff, so I can't really get engaged in this topic. However, I like seeing shit blow up, so I'd like to see them nuke a few countries over there.
Hamas fired rockets into Israel for days before Israel fired back and took out the Hamas leader. Then Hamas used the media to claim Israel started it. Hamas also fired missiles into Jerusalem, which they claimed would never happen. Israel fired rockets at Hamas militants and hit civilians. It wouldn't surprise me if tanks started rolling.

Israel showed a lot of restraint during the 1st gulf war when scuds were raining down on them. I don't think they'll hold off much longer though before a ground assault starts. I just saw on CNN that the French were trying to get some peace talks started. Not exactly reassuring considering that it's the French but maybe they can do something.
