Israel won't need any direct support from us, at least they never have needed it. I'm still pissed at them for bombing then strafing the survivers of the USS Liberty during one of their wars.
The Israelis have a bad habit of not using their brains. There was a case where they killed UN observers, even after being warned 6 times that they were there.
I am an American Zionist, and I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but that would be their problem. I was raised a Catholic, so I certainly have things in common with my Jewish brethren. As I understand, the U.N. was on board with the creation of Israel in 1948. So if the U.N. is "the world", why the condemnation now? They have basically been under attack since the beginning, and the fact that any of their neighbors still exist, to me shows great restraint. But everyone has a breaking point, and all "non-believers" are enemies to the jihadis, not just the Jews. Wipe out the Jews and Israel, and YOU are next. I say let 'em go and have at it, as long as The Jackass pays more than lip service to stand by our greatest Ally.

There wasn't full UN support and even when the UN agreed that a Jewish state should be created, there was much infighting within the UN regarding how many people could go.
Part of the reason many UN member states wanted to allow the creation of a Jewish state was to resolve the issue of "the Jewish problem". The reason for the problem was that Jewish people had been collected from all over Europe to be put into concentration camps, in most cases they had been stripped of their land rights and most of their valuable belongings. In short, they had nothing, and they had no way to prove what used to be theirs, and they were being thrust back into countries which had crippled economies and no stomach to deal with re-integrating them back into their system.
It became much easier to just send them somewhere, and since the governments/people of these countries had allowed them to be put into camps in the first place, the Jewish people wanted to get away from them. Israel, for lack of a better term, was convenient. It provided them some place to go where they could be in charge, where they could get away and start fresh, plus they did so with the help and encouragment from many countries.
Israel is your greatest Ally? In which way?
They certainly are not your largest trading partner
Do they have a mutual defense pact? If the U.S. is attacked by Mexico, will the IDF be at your side?
Do they stand shoulder to shoulder with you in international conflicts?
Or are you suggesting that within the context of the UN, that they always vote for whatever the U.S. suggests? Like good little lapdogs, which really they should considering how much money the U.S. pours into their economy every year.

Israel will remain our ally as long as we keep sending them money and weapons. Once that dries up, we have a sworn enemy. You can't pay somebody to be your friend.

The primary benefit is having a partner in the Middle East, some place where you and your troops are welcome, not just tolerated. However, in the event the U.S. needed a staging area prior to invading an Israeli neighbor, I doubt Israel would want to play host country.

In that department at least this country knows how to hit the beach, chute in and fly by on the enemy. Turkey did not let us go through to invade IRAQ either from the West. The U.S. has no friends in the the Mideast, just people with hands out saying " give me money to be your friend and not ALQUEDA" which is a lie anyway.
I like how Obama goes to an eastern country and promises them millions and more to come. I guess all our people are doing SO WELL that we can afford to borrow more to give to another country.
The wolf (OBAMA) HAS FOOLED THE SHIP (American people) into drinking the koolaid. Tirade over from me!

I heard him say to Burma, that we were looking forward to helping them get their economy going.
Looks like good times for them.

So, I'd like to know when some of the countries we have helped in the past will show up here to lend a helping hand and give us money to rebuild. Hmmmm??
The Following User Says Thank You to Rockporter For This Useful Post:
With regard to Burma, it could be tied aid. Lots of countries do that. I will give you 100 million dollars, but you have to spend 80% of it on goods produced in my country. It stimulates their economy, it stimulates the lender's economy.
It's also bribe money. You make this reform, you get this money, make that reform you get more money. That's how international politics work. Next thing you know, you're buying rice or teak from them, and they are buying Toyota Tundra's from you. After all the sanctions they have faced, they need something to kick start their economy.
