I was like a little kid at Christmas today. Picked up all 3 of my pistols (Remington 1911, XDM .40 3.8 compact, and XD subcompact 9mm).
Soon as I got home, I opened everything up and started piddling with them. Love the XD's, they are sweet. The 1911 got most of my attention though, cuz I've never had anything like it, nor have I ever had a .45. It was interesting. PITA to take apart, compared to the glocks and xd's and what not, oh well. Took it apart and gave it a good little wipe down. Loaded both 7 rd mags with some JHP, and put it where I put it, for night time defense. Then went and started playing with the XD's, figuring them out and what not.
Got bored, decided I wanted to handle the 1911 some more. So I went to chamber some rounds, and every GD JHP was nosediving on the feed ramp, and not chambering WTF? So I removed the JHP from the mags, and put some FMJ ball in there. Chambered fine. Took the gun apart and lubed up the feed ramp area pretty good and tried again. At that point, about every other round was nosediving, but I could get them to chamber with a second push of the slide
Glad I got wise, and decided to make sure the effin thing would cycle ammo before I turned it into my first line of defense weapon My glock 27 will re-assume it's duties, until I can get this piece of shit to the range and see wtf is up with it.
Check out the pictures below. The first pic is where the JHP is hanging up on the feedramp, and has effed it up pretty good with some marks. The second pic shows where the gun is putting a crease in the shell, I guess when it is half ass feeding it. Is this a mag problem, or feedramp problem? Either way, I'm not sure what do to. I wanna send the POS back and get my money back and get something else. But I'm not sure I can do that. I reckon I'll have to send it in for warranty work? Either way, I'm gonna get it to the range this weekend and TRY to put a few rounds through it and see what happens. FML. It's a nice feeling little gun, but it's a fukin piece of shit.
If it matters, the JHP is Remington Golden Saber HPJ.
What is the 1911? Colt, kimber,???? I wouldn't take it to the range, I'd take it to a gunsmith asap.(or the dealer i bought it from). Something just isn't right. I want my Weapon right before i pull the trigger.
It's a brand new, never fired Remington 1911 R1 .45 ACP. Just picked it up today from the FFL.
Yeah, definitely have that thing looked at before you run any ammo through it. Never know what happens during manufacturing process. Remington usually makes quality equipment.
Sig 226 is a sexy gun. Doesnt get much better IMO but your going to pay for it. Most SEALS and other groups carry that weapon. Nothing but good things. Same for the 220 and 229 for that matter.
I have however heard some not so good things about Sigs 290/250 line. Believe they are a bit cheaper so I guess you get what you pay for.

Some guns just don't like some ammo. But your pics tell me that your feed ramp need to be polished and possible the edge where the frame portion of the ramp meets the barrel/chamber portion should also be relieved or chamfered. Just don't let the smith take out too much at the chamber as you will lose needed support around the case head.

You saying I need to pay someone to fix it? Or send this shit back and let remington fix it? I ain't payin no one anything to fix a fuked up gun from the factory!
Do not mention his name here. He spits on us and talks crap and you're directing people to him from our site? I don't think so. I know you're neutral and that's fine, but please do not mention him here.

Yeah, either that or take it back to the dealer who sold it.

The 1911 was designed for 230 GR Round Nose Copper Jacketed "Hardball" military type ammo. Some 1911's simply will not feed JHP without a little work to the feed ramp. A more expensive 1911 will gobble up whatever you run through it, but you pay for that in the purchase price. Less expensive pistols are great for personal customization. I have experience with a 1970's vintage Colt Series 70 Government Model that will feed whatever type of ammo including handloads with no problems.

Immediately contact Remington and open a case and get a return authorization number.
They will probably have to send it back to the FFL and not you when it gets fixed.

Saturday January 19th is Gun Appreciation Day. It was initially meant for supporting your local gun retailer, going to a shooting range, etc. It has turned into a day for pro-gun rallys across the nation. I urge everyone to attend such a rally in their own areas. I will be on the state capitol steps Saturday at noon in Hartford. I will be carrying the following sign:
SIDE 1
DO NOT
COMPLY,
MAKE THEM
"COME AND
TAKE IT!"
SIDE 2
I AM A
FREE
CITIZEN,
NOT A
SUBJECT

I just got off the phone with Executive Gun Runners. The guy explained to me how finicky 1911's are, and that some of them are very specific on which ammo they will take. Even though the Remington Golden Saber JHP's are on the list of ammo this thing will take, he recommended putting a lot of rounds through it first (FMJ ball, which seem to be chambering/cycling properly). I'll try to put a couple hundred rounds through it this weekend, then try to see if it will take the JHP. He also recommended polishing the feed ramp some, that maybe there is a bur or something that is hanging the JHP up. I'll try that too. He said if it is still acting up, to call Remington and they will square it away for me. I really like the gun, how it feels and all...just hope that once I loosen it up some, I'll fall in love with it
Side note, wife saw her new 9mm today and loved it. She wants to go to the range right now. Then she found the .45. She texted me "you got a GD .45? holy shit!"
