CAI vs. K&N air filter

I have an 07 Double Cab SR5 5.7L and love my truck. I purchased a K&N filter a few months ago on a friend's recommendation that it would improve gas milage and power slightly . After reading some posts on here I have seen CAI's, as well.
Has anyone tried both and can give me some numbers to look over for increased gas milage? I know there is a HP increase which I am not concerned with because the 5.7 has enough power for my uses.
My goal is to exceed the 20mpg on the sticker. Currently at 18 - 19.

Thanks in advance,

by the way this is a cool site.

I installed a K&N air filter a couple days ago. Still haven't done too much driving so I can't really notice any difference yet. I was thinking on getting a CAI but after doing some research I just decided to keep the stock system (at least for now), which according to many people is already very efficient. You can find tons of posts on this topic but I haven't seen too many comments on the air filter though.

I am also very interested on the outcome of this post

Thanks for the quick response. I have the K&N filter and it may have increased the mpg by 0.5, but I also have lightened the right foot in the last year of driving it to improve my milage. the 18 -19 has been in town too. I am taking a trip with it next week and am anxious to see if the filter helps on the highway.

I installed a K&N drop-in filter two days ago. I don't "feel" a difference (I did with my Corolla...) but I am curious about the milage. Seems like it makes more of a difference if you have done exhaust work; air system alone seems to be of little benefit. I drive in hill country, so I am hoping a couple of extra horses will make a difference in MPG; less down-shifting going uphill...

Remove the charcoal filter from the airbox lid. That and a K&N drop in, and you have just slightly below an aftermarket CAI.

Also add exhaust for more MPGs!

When you do 60mph on flat land I get 22.5mpg. That's above the sticker. Also by driving slower you will notice when you fill up your range will be over 400 miles on the computer.

Aftermarket intakes allow more air thus demanding more fuel. It's not likely you will see better mileage from an intake as most are designed for performance. Just sayin fellas! I added a second 3" fender intake to my stock and there is a very noticable power increase!

I'm getting 2.0+mpg above the sticker, so something is helping putting the mpg's in my tank....

back from trip

I have completed my trip and here are the numbers.
Speed: 65-69 and about 500 - 600 lbs of gear.
all mpg check by miles to gallons with a calculator.
1st fill-up Roanoke, VA 200 miles @18.6 mpg going up and down hills.
Fuel gauge @ a little over 1/2.
2nd fill up 300 miles @22.6 mpg flat to rolling hills all highway.
Fuel guage @ a little under 1/2
3rd fill up 350 miles @18.7 mpg 50 miles city and rest highway.
Fuel gauge @ 1/4

The wierd thing about the trip is that in Roanoke I couldn't find any gas stations that sold anything but the 10% ethanol blend and I got the best milage using it. I am currently @ a little over 1/2 after 230 miles on another tank of 10%. WTF I though I would get worse using 10% and ended up getting better milage. I will probably fill up tomorrow to find the milage for the last leg of the trip.

I posted yesterday under the charcoal filter mod thread - I'm getting 2 - 3 mpg better with the K&N replacement filter and charcoal filter removed.
