Mickey, That is what I thought too. The only thing I can think of that would affect the mpg that much is the amount of hills. The first leg of the trip is
200 miles and I know there are some hills to pull. The second leg must be easier driving, because on the return trip on the exact same route heading south instead of north my mpg went back down to 18.7 mpg. The last leg I just figured up as 22.3 mpg using the 10% again. I know that that leg is more down hill, but I didn't think I would get almost 4 mpg more using the ethanol.
I guess I will try to find the ethanol around here the next time I do the trip to see the results.

Steve,
Did you drive it for any length of time with just the k&n filter before taking out the charcoal filter? If so, what were the results?

When I used the 10% I was in florida to Louisiana. Mostly flat. Still got bad results.

Wow that's great. Good work Steve. Show some pics.

Sorry, no. I did both the filters at the same time.

I can't confirm it now that ethanol is in everything here, but I believe my truck looses 2-4MPH using it. I also drive in very hilly / mountainous areas and short, low-speed trips. I would have said my average was 16 before ethanol, 13 with it, and now 16-18 with the filter mods.. (still using ethanol)
but like I say, I can't confirm those figures, since I can't find gas without ethanol.

I put the K&N in last night and its AWESOME. It's not the 13 hp that's advertised, but there is definitely a noticeable difference. The low rumble that the truck has now sounds great too.

Okay, I found a 2mpg increase with the K&N. I was getting 18.5 and now I'm getting 20.5. those numbers are setting the cruise at 65 mph on relatively flat highway. now I just gotta decide on an exhaust, and wait for some tners to come out.
