Smile MPG Girl - from Houston, TX

I'm with an automotive media firm in Houston, TX. I work with virtually every Toyota dealership in Houston and am currently working on an MPG documentary.

If you're looking for a referral to buy a Tundra in Houston , I pretty much know the good, bad and ugly about local dealers and can refer you to connections I have with the dealers that know what "ethical" means..

I personally drive a 08 Toyota Camry SE...here's my car..

And I'm currently working on mpg testing of Tundras in Houston with a local toyota dealership. Here's one of the vehicles we just completed...

Welcome to the site. How was the Tundra ride? I enjoy the hell out of mine. Bought it in 07/07 and have 30,500 miles on it. Right now I'm getting 22.5mpg at 60mph, 20.7mpg at 65mph, 19.6mpg at 70mph, 18.2mpg at 75mph, and 17.3mpg at 80mph. All these tests were done on at least a 200 mile trip. I'm using an AFE CAI along with Borla Pro XS duels. The duels only added .5mpg and the AFE added 1.5 - 2mpg. I live in flat land florida so hardly no resistance.

Hi, the lowering suspension is a 2" 4" drop. Replaced coil springs, leaf springs and shocks. The ride is great. Driving this truck makes me wish I had one

The guy to talk to about the suspension is in the Spring area. I'll PM you his phone number.

Hi, thank you! The Tundra I'm much more impressed with than i had thought I'd be. And our before's aren't quite as good as what you're showing on MPG... but, they have not been on any truck we've tested in the Houston area so far. I'll post all of the mpg test info as soon as they are completed. By the way nice truck... looks similiar to the one they let me drive. I love the Tundra blue.

I still can't believe that we differ so much on mpg. I would understand it for city driving because you could add in the lead foot factor. On cruise going 80 this past weekend from SC to Alabama, I got 16.6 to 16.8. Do you think the exhaust and the intake is making that much of a difference?

No you're not stuck. Possible rolling hills change it. My times I did it was from Jax to Savannah at all speeds. Did that trip all summer long last year. The truck is great for cruisin'. Trips to Orlando and Melbourne Florida from Jax. SO these trips are about 200 - 300 miles one way. Flat land no hills and set cruise control to that speed. I'm getting 2.5mpg more at 60mph, where at 80mph I'm getting 1.5mpg more. This is using my AFE and Borla duels. I tried one trip to Savannah at 55mph and got 24.5mpg..Only problem I couldn't replicate that so I don't count it. Not to mention horn blowing people cussing because of the speed I was doing in the right lane...Go figure....If I'm not right that 24.5mpg was also done with a complete tank of premium gas. I'm currently playing around with that to see if there is a difference. I'm very close to avg 20mpg on a monthly basis. I'm at 19.8mpg. Now it's 28 miles one way for me to work. Out of that 19 miles are I-95. 8 miles are 4 lane road at 55 where I keep it at 60. That last mile I have 2 red lights only.

That would make sense. There were a lot of hills on that trip. I just can't believe it would make that much of a difference. I will have to admit that I did gun it around some people a few times. I wouldn't honk at you being in the right lane going 55 mph....there is nothing wrong with that. I get livid at people going below 70 in the left lane, unless they are passing some one slower. Nothing annoys me more than people who just cruise in the left lane. I like how some states have signs that say passing lane only.

I did a 1,000 mile trip from Baltimore MD (where I bought my truck) to Fort Walton Beach FL and averaged 18.7 mpg going 75 mph. I changed my oil to a synthetic at 3500 miles and was running to Biloxi and back averaging 19.5 @ 70 mph and 19 @ 75 mph. Go figure...

I keep hearing about about people changing to a synthetic oil. Does it make a big difference? I do now how to change my oil, so don't make fun, but I find that I would rather bring it in to a shop and pay $20 so I don't have to deal with getting rid of the old oil and such......people tend not to like it when you pour it down the storm drains...go figure. That was a joke....just so know one jumps down my throat.
My question is... If I buy the oil and bring it to a jiffy lube etc, will they change it with the oil I purchase?
Just curious. Can I ask them to go ahead and put in synthetic oil. I would assume that they would have that on hand, but it might be cheaper if I bought my own.
