First off I wouldnt take any vehicle to a Jify lube. The dealer is about the same price or couple dollars more. Better off taking it there. Second about the oil question.Lots of people dont no this but any 0/ 20 weight oil is synthetic. They do not make a non mineral oil thats not sythetic. Meaning the oil the dealer has or any other lube place that has that oil weight it will be synthetic.Unless they put in 5w30 , then it might not be synthetic. Toyota does ok using 5w30 but the lighter wieght oil will help the moving parts move easier.

So when I go to the dealer for an oil change, they are putting in synthetic, or do I need to ask them to put in something specifically?

Ask them if there using 5w30 or 0w20. Like I said all non minerals are synthetic. More than likely there using 0w20. Ask them what brand of oil there using. I like amsoil. Thats what I use on all my vehicle, motorcycles, and heavy equipment. Thats my opinion, U can find a local dealer in your town who sell s amsoil, or go to AMSOIL - Synthetic Oil, Motor and Engine Oil, Lubricants, Air Filters, Oil Filters and Greases and check out there website.

That was a joke....just so know one jumps down my throat.
My question is... If I buy the oil and bring it to a jiffy lube etc, will they change it with the oil I purchase?
Just curious. Can I ask them to go ahead and put in synthetic oil. I would assume that they would have that on hand, but it might be cheaper if I bought my own.
From day one the truck had synthetic in it. It comes from the factory that way. I have the dealer do my oil change with Castrol synthetic, also hence the $75 bill. Yes synthetic cost more but our truck takes more also. Never take to Jiffy Lube. Synthetic is what was mention above for fuel efficiency. Reason I also do this is the lifetime warranty on truck.

Ok, following up since several of you messaged me asking for the MPG modification test results on the Tundra... as an update, there is no update

I STILL haven't got the documentary materials back, so hopefully will have it up early next week.

The Silverado test has been posted in the meantime if anyone wants to take a look... here's a link..

Nothing annoys me more than people who just cruise in the left lane. I like how some states have signs that say passing lane only.
I also hate when I am coming up on a couple of cars and then one guy decides to pass the other guy in the open lane and he's doing 1 mph faster than the car he's trying to pass. So I have to hit my brakes to slow down and get behind them. Or a 3 lane highway that has very few cars on it, but there are three cars doing almost the same speed and taking up all three lanes. Sometimes I wish there were microphone in my truck and they could hear me over the speakers in their car.

Yea I know the feeling. You could always install one of those speakers connected to a CB radio. I think it is mandatory that it plays Dixie though

You mean they make ones that DON'T play dixie? I've thought about getting one of those kids karaoke FM transmitter microphones. Maybe the person in the other car will be listening to the radio and I can switch it on and let them hear me. Most of the time I am only a couple of feet off their bumper so I know I have to be in range.

I live in hill country and get between 13 and 15mpg. That was over the winter; they were putting ethanol in the gas, too. It seemed to get really bad milage then. Does everyone put ethanol in gas now, and does it affect milage???

I tried ethanol mix at the begining of the month and my mileage was down at least 1.5mpg. So from there I won't try it again. For some reason I don't get good fuel economy with ethanol.

I think that is a lot of the reason why toyota does not offer an e85 tundra first off you get worse fuel milage second it places a large impact on farmland which now has to be used for fuel when we need as much as possible for food this causes food prices to rise same thing applies to biodiesel. Third good luck finding that junk! what good is e85 when you have to drive 100miles just to get it and then run out on your way home because you only get 8 mpg!?. No sorry GM but e85 is not the answer but i guess if it will help you convince all the tree hugging enviromentalist out their who can't see the forest for the trees that it is, just so you can hopefully keep your head above water well than good luck .

Rumor has it that there will be an E85 Tundra next year.

E85 won't work with corn or sugar. Might be viable with algae and switchgrass.

Yeah i just read an article that said the 09 Tundra will be e85 compatible probably the only reason toyota is doing it is to remain competitive. But if you stop and think about it whatever thay use to produce e85 is going to require land right now e85 is not that widespread so the impact is not that great but what if 75% of the population were to start using e85? How do you think this will effect the food supply?. Unless thay figure out some way to grow switchgrass or whatever in the desert so it will have minimum impact on farmland i just dont see e85 as the Holy Grail to our energy crisis or future energy crisis.
