Just picked up a Tundra off Ebay

Hi All,

New member here. I just picked up this Tundra for $27k after the highest bidder bailed out. Is this a good deal? GF & I flew down from Chicago and picked it up yesterday. We're spending a couple days in Tampa and will drive it up on Monday.

A few questions:

1) I've noticed some thicker bumpier paint on the side panels below the doors on both sides of the vehicle. Does everyone else have them? Is this rust proofing or something?

2) I'm considering installing navigation. I enjoy the feature packed stock JBL radio (steering wheel controls, bluetooth, voice command, etc). Has anyone connected the steering wheel and microphone successfully to an aftermarket unit? Or would it be best to install an OEM nav system?

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the forum !
1) Yes that's normal on the Tundra for some paint protection .

2) I have no experience with that , but I'm sure someone can answer that .

Please post a pic when you get the chance .

From what I've seen, you cant connect a NAV system to the JBL system. Most people who get the JBL that want the in dash NAV end up pulling the JBL and installing an OEM in dash NAV system. I personnaly like the JBL a lot. I bought a Garmin NAV and it works great.

Looks like a fair price. This orange peel paint is normal to protect off road. Funny when I took my Hummer in to Toyota for trade in they used ebay pricing to show me what I would get. It was 30k less then I owed on it!!! So its nice to see your truck held its value even on the unfair marketplace of ebay. Whats more real is your local marketplace coupled with Kelly Blue Book.

Hello Mark and welcome to the site. Enjoy your ebay ride. Let us know what type/model. I have the rough stuff down low. It prevents chip in the paint. As far as the bluetooth I have verizon and it's not compatible. AT&T is compatible. Do a search on the NAV. I'm sure I read other Tundra owners have aftermarket Navs.

Yes, it's a crewmax limited. No sunroom (I need the extra height). Came w/ side steps and bedliner. First post has the ebay link w/ pictures.

Driving it up from Tampa to Chicago. Currently in Nashville and I'm averaging 18.5 MPG doing about 65mph.

I'll have to check the book again, but I thought it had a 26 gallon tank. It seems that when I have about a quarter tank left, there's still 10 gallons! I imagine Toyota reserved some gallons in a reserve pool.

That is awesome MPG. I have a SR5 Crew-Max and I just drove this weekend from South Carolina to Alabama and I only got 16.5 MPG. I don't have a lead foot though. It is a probably more of a hilly ride than Florida to Nashville. I still don't understand why it varies so much from one Tundra to another. I really don't think I have a lead foot.

As for the tank, it does have some extra gas in the tank even when it says empty. Some people were going to bring some spare gas with them, and let it run empty to see how many miles they got after it says empty. You can probably find the discussion if you do a search. Welcome to the board.

the truck has about a 5-6 gallon "reserve" .. it has an extra 5-6 gallons once your range indicator says 0

has about 100 miles left after your gas light comes on

congrats on the truck
not a fan of silver, but sweet color combo

Nice truck. That is a pretty good deal for a Limited with such little miles on it.

Not bad mpg. Yes florida let's me get 22.5mpg at 60mph. Yes you have extra gas when it looks like it's empty. To me a safety feature. Now I wouldn't recommend running it till it stops to see how far. You can cause damage by letting the gunk in the bottom of the tank to get sucked into your lines can caused you trouble. Then you have to prime the engine or wait while it's turning over to catch up with the fuel.
