towing
Hello:
Need some help for towing. 06 superduty diesel is no longer and I am looking at Tundra for towing a 31' Airstream weighing approx 8500#. Is there anybody on the Forum that is towing a Travel Trailer with this kind of weight? Thanks for your help Bob |

Contact Newdad1999 he's pulling a 32' trailer with a crewmax. It's 9,000lbs.

Morning Rochar,
First question is what model Tundra? Crewmax or Doublecab.... I'm sure you have or will have the 5.7. The Crewmax will pull 10,200 and the Doublecab will do 10,400. Now figure tongue weight, people and luggage (one case of beer or two). The question isn't what the trailer weighs as much as how much does the tongue weigh. Don't know? Run down to the local truck stop and weigh it by itself and with the trailer on. Once you know that, I can set it up on the money. |

I'm towing a 30' Jayco that has a dry weight of 6500#. I figure with the bikes, gear, and beer and a full tank of water, I am easily around the 7500# mark. I have absolutely no problem towing with my 07 5.7 Crewmax. It's an absolute joy to travel with. Gas mileage suffers drastically, but then again my Jayco is not near as aerodynamic as the Airstreams. I average 8 to 9 miles per gallon. However, I will generally drive 65 to 75 mph. I have a weight distribution hitch and Reese sway control bar along with a Prodigy brake control. Couldn't ask for a better set up. Torque will be less than your diesel. But with 401 lbs of torque on the Tundra, you should be fine. I have travelled the hills of Pa and the WV turnpike -all mountainous - with no problems.
