New Guy Checking In

Hello everyone. I'm not sure what to say, so if this appears to ramble a bit, it is probably because it does.

I'm the proud owner of a 2008 Salsa Red Pearl Tundra SR-5 CrewMax, 4x4, with 5.7 V8. My wife knew I had been wanting a new 4x4, and surprised me with it. How cool is she? She did everything. Researched it, looked at our needs, and determined the best deal on one. If not for our need for an occasional tow vehicle for a horse trailer, I would've probably opted for a Tacoma, but the few chances I have had to drive the Tundra have been great.

If that last sentence is a little confusing, it is because my wife purchased it for me as I was at Ft. Hood, TX, preparing to deploy to Kuwait, where I am currently located for about another six months. I am in the Army National Guard, where I serve as a medic, hence the "Doc" in my name.

Civilian side I am an assistant prosecuting attorney (Please! No "why aren't you a JAG Officer" questions. I enjoy being a medic). I also have a wide variety of interests and hobbies, including camping and four-wheeling (two good reasons to own a Tundra), as well as scenario based paintball, shooting, martial arts, guitar and scale modeling.

I also consider myself a "car guy" although I don't do much wrenching these days. I owned sports and sporty cars such as a 70 Mustang and an 84 Rx-7, as well as 4x4s, including an 82 Toyota Hi Lux (which is why I prefer Toyotas!), a 69 Jeep CJ5, 77 Jeep Cherokee, and a 92 Jeep Wagoneer. My experience has been if you like working on 4x4s, go Jeep. If you like driving them, go Toyota.

In addition to my incredible wife, I have two daughters that are great kids and both of whom, along with my wife, are more intelligent than I am. It isn't bragging, it is a simple fact that I am the only male in the house, and the dumbest one to boot. I have absolutely no complaints, though.

At any rate, I stumbled on this forum while planning improvements for my Tundra when I return home, and thought I would join. I firmly believe that I can't get too much information. Oh, I also belong to Tundra Solutions and YotaTech, for mostly the same reasons.

I am rambling and this is getting long, so let me finish by saying I look forward to being here, and contributing where I can!

Hello DOC, first thing stay safe and thanks. Retired 21 years Navy. My wife also bought my 07 Crewmax Limited. As I bought her 07 Prius. Like you she is in the medical field as a Nurse working at the Naval clinic. You will enjoy your ride. Welcome to the best site around. I belong to several sites Tundraheadquarters.com, Tundranetwork.net, and Tundra solutions.com. This site we have alot of fun with it. As you'll see some of the threads deal with CM vs DC. A friendly rivalry with constant gnat buzzing around called Titan who likes to insult us. But he's amusing. Keep you head low and stay safe. The DA needs you back I'm sure.

Thanks Mickey, and let me thank you for your service. I noticed the friendly rivalry between the DC and CM crowd. The reason we opted for the CrewMax was the fact that it will often be used for long trips, either camping, to paintball games or horse shows, and that extra room and a rear seat that reclines a little will make a huge difference for the backseat passengers.

The Titan "gnat" just confuses me, but hey, if that is how he gets his jollies, I will just ignore him.

Isn't it great having a cool wife? My wife has known I wanted a pick-up since I got rid of my '82, and promised that we would get one as soon as we were able. It was certainly a surprise when I found out that time was now!

As for pics, I have a couple up.

Ever since I met my wife we were in opposite vehicles. She took my 97 Thunderbird and gave me her 96 Firebird which was purple but to her plum. So I wanted a truck and she got me a 98 Silverado and from then on she got the truck I got her the car. Not to mention but she bought me a 06 18.5 Bayliner with a 3.0 I/O Mercruiser. I got all this but in return I built her a house she wanted.
