Can anyone reccomend a K&N type cold air intake filter kit for a 2008 Tundra Crewmax?
Type and price would be nice.
Thanks

haha yea .. but those companies have to pay 8-10% in paypal/eBay fee's so they have to mark up their price, if you call them direct or deal outside of eBay, you can def get it cheaper.

yea it sure is, i need to clear it off haha

K&N isn't a cold air intake.

I installed the 77 model on my 2007 5.7 and it is ok. It makes a whistling sound that I can not get rid of. I have checked several times for leaks and can't find one.

K&N offers both drop-in filters and CAI units.

Not on everything, I bought all my sound equipment new on ebay through Paypal and saved just about half of what I would pay anywhere else. Amps, subs, reciever, modules etc..The more popular items are usually not cheap as a matter of fact its always marked up but then eventually drops as it gets competetive. I'm having the Banks Monster Exhaust installed today and they have a CAI comming out this summer. Keep that sig just add to it! Hahaha!

Well actually theoretically, it isn't. The website does not show a "cold air intake" kit. Just the FIPK 57 and 77 series are shown. Those are not cold air intakes. They actually suck in more hot air from the engine bay than the stock setup because the filter element is open to all the heat that the engine produces.

The pimp is right, you need to modify the KnN to intake away from the heat of the motor. I did on my 2000 Tundra.

Isn't the stock box a cold air intake?

I see a number of aftermarket units have holes that allow engine compartment air to enter as well as the cold fender well air. Personally I don't have an issue with this because if the choice is pulling a little warm air vs restricting air intake - I think the restrictin intake as a bigger HP loss.

After researching this issue for an hour or so - I'm leaning towards just ordering a K&N filter and let it go at that. I would like a little more noise under the hood, but an not sure it is worth the trouble.

Anyway, I'll probably let this thread play out before I make a decision.

the k&n has the shield to keep it away fromt he heat of the motor while placing it right by the fender well to receive cold air.

You believe that works? How is something that is not air tight and form fitting going to keep out warm air from the engine? It still gets the majority of its air from the engine bay. A "cold" air intake is more like an intake with the filter ran to the bumper where nothing but cooler air comes in, or a totally enclosed intake unit.
