ok so I'm about a month or so away from buying the ProComp 6 inch for my Tundra and I wanted to know if it matters that I have the V6 in my truck.
I'm not looking for people to just criticize the V6 and all that, I just need to know if my engine will have enough power for the lift and bigger tires. I don't want to kill my truck anywhere in the near or distant future so I need some help with this.
V6 or V8, the Tundra is still the best and these ProComp's I see in almost everyone's signature makes me want to buy it now! haha
I am planning on getting an air intake and exhaust so that should add a little more power for the lift right?
hey bro the truck will be able to run with the lift but you might have problems with the rear diff and the gears. im not sure what the ratio is on the 4.0's and you will notice a drastic power drop with the 4.0 even with the intake and exhaust. i feel like i lost a little bit of power and i can feel it and i have a 5.7 so i can only imagine with the 4.0. plus i dont know what size wheels you will need to run because i dont know if you have the same size rotors as the 5.7's and the tire size will make a huge difference in it all. 35's are a lot of beef to move. these would be a couple things to check on. hope this helps a little. some of the other guys will also chime in as wheel and help you more than i can. i'd do leveling kit personaly in your case.
Since you have a 2wd, you should wait for CST's lift spindle. You could use the spindle with a coilover and uniball upper arm. With that setup you could get 7"+/- of lift, with a decent amount more ground clearance. I have 315/70/17's (34.6) on my V6, and while you can feel the weight your truck won't be a dog with them.
i've seen the JBA headers, and i know K&N has that CAI coming out within a couple of months, but I haven't seen any TRD parts for the 4.0 unless the Tacoma or FJ Cruiser parts will fit since it is the same engine right? anybody know anything on this?
there are certain models of tacoma and land cruiser that have the same engine .. like the x-runner tacoma
not sure if the parts will fit .. would be sweet if you do something custom though
as far as intake .. you may need to shorten or lengthen the tube which isnt a big deal .. and maybe make some brackets to hold it in place .. doesnt sound like the end of the world
I'm probably going with either the Toytec or Truxxx 3/1 lift now. I'll post some pics after I get my wheels in.
