Angry brakes vibrating BAD!! and they're new!!

I recently had the front brake pads and rotors replaced on my 02 Tundra. About a week later, the vibration in the brakes returned even worse than the vibration I was feeling prior to having them replaced. I'm going back to the shop to see what the problem is. Does anyone know if this is vibration in the brakes can be fixed permanently? If it can, could you tell me how?

Thanks for your time,
Jason C.

I checked the wheels and the weights are there. The truck also feels like your driving down a gravel road when you apply the brakes. It feels like its grinding or something. The vibration is real bad when you slowly apply the brakes. Midas has a gaurantee, so I'm gonna see if they can figure it out. They should fix it no charge I hope.

Talk to a Certified Toyota Service Writer about this issue!!! Lots of mechanics don't know about this problem.
In the early first gen Tundras there was an upgrade witch in my opinion should have been concidered a recall. Many Tundra's were experiencing this same problem so Toyota offered a caliper up grade for free under warranty or if your warranty was expired you had to fork out $1200. It seemed the calipers were undersized and it began warping the rotors and causing a vibration. I just spent $99 a year on new rotors as my warranty was expired at the time my truck first started doing this. I believe there is also a fix they do with a shim in the caliper. I would look into the upgrade! There are more than a few aftermarket caliper upgrades out there. Notice how Toyota went with the monster 4 wheel disk on the new trucks? Good luck man! Anything else you need to know about your Tundra just let me know I had a 2000 SR5 V8 4X4 for 7 years. Great truck by the way! That's probably the only issue you will ever have with that great truck!!! I got 180,000 semi-trouble free miles out of mine.

Talking Been There Done That 4x....Until

I have a 2000 Limited TRD 4wrd Tundra that gave me he!! for a few years with vibration in the front wheels.

The problem started after only 4,000 miles and I heard EVERY EXCUSE from SEVERAL Dealers about my problem.

Over the space of two years and 40,000 miles the rotors were replaced 2x. resurfaced many more times. Brake pads replaced. Alignments of tires and the frontend and the problem ALWAYS returned.

Everytime I looked at a rotor set that was replaced they were warped and cracked.

NOTE: Any kind of heavy braking, mountains or towing heated up the rotors and damaged them. I had to figure this out myself.

NONE of the Dealers fixes lasted more then a few thousand miles.

Deznutjob is correct. Toyota undersized the front brake system.

I FINALLY fixed the problem myself.

I replaced the oem parts with aftermarket rotors and pads. Not just any type either...

I used Cross-Drilled and Slotted Front Rotors and Carbon Kevlar Front Brake Pads. They cost me about $300 total and I did the work myself.

I now have 165,000 miles on my Tundra, 125,000 on the upgraded rotors with NO PROBLEMS.

I just replaced the Carbon Kevlar Pads (first time) at 162,000 and there was still padding on them.

So, if you have an older Tundra and have front vibration/brake problems, skip the OEM and upgrade.

ps. I ordered my parts from wheeler's off-road [LINK] Hi-Performance Brake Parts for Toyota Tundra's- Wheeler's Off-Road, Inc

Good stuff man, it pays to do a little research! You should start a thread with this info for all the early first gen Tundra owners.

Yep talked to a few different guys with the "brake-shake" - glad I read this, will try aftermarket stuff, even though what I'm dealing with is not that bad, just plain annoying...

Yeah so I’m a little late on getting to this thread, but I am starting to notice this issue in my 02’.

Question: I will check my tire weights first, but in the case of needing a brake upgrade, is it possible to go with a bigger caliper without a new set of rims and tires? I only have the I.S.A. TRD 16” rims (yes I said 16” rims ) and the clearance is very minimal.

Also what tire pressure do you go with… My TRD sticker on the inside of my driver side door say to fill front tire to 37psi, and 42psi in the rear tire… My tires on the other hand call out a different pressure all together. What pressure should I follow? I’ve driven with both scenarios and get the same outcome with the vibrations?

Ironman, go back to post #6 and go from there. Upgraded calipers will fit the 16" wheels. Sounds like your rotors are warped, if they're over a couple of years old buy new ones. Be sure and talk to a Toyota service writer and get all the info you can from him regarding the first gen Tundra front brake issue and if he doesn't want to give info over the phone call another dealer.

if dez's problem doesnt fix well i think the shop that installed ur rotors and pads ruined the job by using an air impact gun instead of a torque wrench to tighten the bolts for your wheels thats got to be the problem alopt of shops are lazy and WILL use a faster tool to do the job in shoorter time for more money!!!
