MY TRUCK: 2000 4X4 V8 TUNDRA - I am currently running Pennzoil® Conventional 10w-40. I have found a huge difference in what I use to run which was Mobil 1® Extended Performance 5w-30. I do not know which I like better in the truck...it seems that the throttle response is weaker with the penz oil, but I think thats cause its thicker oil. I dont want to keep going back and forth; this was the first time i made a change in weight and brand. I am just wondering what other people use in their tundra...

I run Valvoline 10w-30 in my truck and I get great throttle response and it doesn't burn it up!! I suggest that you stop switching oils like that it's not good for your truck unless you are getting it completely flushed each time!!

You need to use the recommended weight from the manufacturer. Which is 5w20 or 0w20 in the 5.7l Tundra. These newer engines have closer tolerances so the thinner oil is needed to flow through and cool the engine properly. Whether or not you use synthetic or conventional is all personal preference. All "Name Brand" oils have to meet certain standards (SJ, SG, API, Etc.....). Synthetics do last longer than conventional oils, which is that it takes longer for the different components of the oil to separate and break down, due to heat. This does not mean that you can go significantly longer between oil changes, Like Royal Purple or Mobil1 100K say you can. They are missing one fact, ALL oil gets dirty! And Dirty oil does not flow at an optimum rate. Always change your oil filter!

Mobil 1 full syn 0-20w... Wal-mart finally started carrying it.
Toyota recommends 0-20w (better fuel economy than 5-20) or 5-20w, and I won't use anything but full syn in any internal combustion engine I own including my lawn mower. Full syn has proven itself to me throughout my 25 years of racing experience in everything from street rods to Pro stocks. I like Mobil 1 and Royal Purple as personal choices.

they say to hit about 10,000 miles before you put synthetic oil in. You want to get some kind of breakin on that motor first. Makes it hard to break in using synthetic oils. Just what I heard from a toyota mechanic , He's a friend of mine. I'd look in to that first. Just my opinion

I just had my first oil change on the truck yeserday. I went with mobil 1 synthetic. The Tech told me it should not be a problem. I have 3800 mile on the truck. I colud tell that it did run smoother or it was probably just in my head.
