Good column Dez !!! As I stated before I own a driveline copmany in So.Chicago. We make driveshafts And remanufacture axles and rack And pinions. I bought my first toyota in 1992, I bought a toyota pick up 2.2re, What they call a hilux. From that point I bought 2 more new the following year. I have three toyota 4cyl pickups for delivery and they all three are the same ones I bought new , all with over 300,000 miles on them. The 92 has 390,000 on it. And believe it or not have have not really had any big problems that occured on them. Sinse then I bought my wife a 99 4 runner new then and still have it. I bought a 2002 tundra new and traded it in last year for the 07' tundra. One big happy Toyota family here. Anyone that questions the reliabilty of Toyota can talk to me. They have proven to be the best for me !!!

FYI, I truly think the 2.2re motor that Toyota made in the 90's was the best engine ever made. No question about it. Hopefully the new 5.7l will match that. Not power wise obviuosly, Just longetivity. Time will tell.

I had the 22RE motor in my 89'. I could not kill that thing if i wanted to. Hell i even sank the truck in the Potomac River... fully submerged truck!! I had a friend pull me out of the river, put a charge on my battery, took the plugs out, turned it over and shot water out of the cylinders, plugged it back up and drove it home to change the oil. Love me a 22RE

For me it was in 1995 when I traded in my 89' Nissan 240 sx for a brand new 1995 Toyota 4 runner. I basically drove the crap out of the 4runner for the past 12 years and 150,000 miles and then sold it for my 2007 Tundra.
Here are some pics of the old 4 runner....ahh good times..good times. ![]() ![]() ![]() I got rid of her for the Tundra and have no regrets...plus I get the same gas .mpg as the 4runner. ![]()

1984 Toyota 2wd long bed when i was 16. got it with 140k on it and promptly wrapped it around a tree on a gravel road acting like i was in the Dukes of Hazzard. I was without a Toyota for a while after that, but then got back on track. Had a '99 Tacoma 4wd V6 Ext cab, moved up to my '05 Double Cab Tundra, then couldn't resist the new Crewmax when it came out. I fought it off for about a year, then couldn't take it anymore...man, I love that 5.7 when I'm pulling the trailer.

When I was around 13-14, a long 6-7 years ago, we bought a lake house in north GA. We lived in Atlanta at the time and had a boat that we had owned, still do, that we kept on Lake Lanier for 2 years while we got used to owning a boat and the whole lake thing. My dad had always had sport/luxury cars, Audi a6, bmw 5's, and so on. Ha when my parents picked me up from the adoption agency the day after I was born my parents drove me home in a 88' red bmw M6. We realized that after we bought the house that a sedan, even a large one was not practical for us. My dad and I test drove every large suv on the market and kept coming back to the Toyota Seqouia. We had that any never had a glimmer of issues. It was my dad's car, then after a year my mom got a lexus Rx330. Then we moved to tampa, lept the lake house and traded the seqouia in for a lexus gx 470. First year after the move I turned 16 and got my first car, 2005 toyota 4runner. Then the lease just came up several months ago and haveing a truck over an suv seemed to fit my lifestyle and needs better. And now the lease on my moms car is coming up, she test drove the new Sequoia and said it was way too big for her, the highlander is too small and she does not really like any of the lexus models. So she may just keep the one she has now or maybe branch out a little and get a VW toureg 2.
And through all of these cars have we ever had any issues even of the smallest nature. Only thing that ever has gone wrong was once when I took my 4runner in to be serviced at the Toyota dealership they did the regular 25k or something near there mile service. I pick it up a little later and on the drive home it seems like the engine is severly down on power and bogging down at time, even under full throttle it was very slow. I get home and tell my parents, they say the usual "its the dealership I dont think they would have messed it up". In short my dad drove it around the block and agreed, we take it back in and they drain the oil, I told them I suspected the put too much oil in. Come to find out they put around 2 times the amount needed. They freaked and took care of it all, got free service on the 4runnner there for the remainder of the lease. O almost forgot, my moms first car when she was still in college was a toyota carolla.God knows what year that was. So the list: (Family and mine....even though parents pay for mine too) Old old toyota carolla Toyota Sequoia Lexus rx330 2005 Lexus gx470 (current) 2005Toyota 4runner 2008 Toyota Tundra (current)
