Questions about possible 05 V8 Purchase

I am looking at a 2005 Crew cab SR5 V8. It has towing package, and I am really not sure what the other options are. It is cloth interior, and had a CD player.

SO, the questions. Truck has 105K miles.

There are no maintenance records, but it is a one owner, very clean inside and out truck. Dealer trade, to wholesale lot.

What maintenance is called for at 100K? Are there timing belts to be addressed? Plugs? I know all the general maintenance items will need to be addressed.

How duarble are the 4.7 engines and the automatic transmission? Will this tundra give me years of service with 100k already on the clock?

Suspension failures with 100K? Control arms, bushings etc?

Any other thing I may need to know before the purchase.

Timing belt shouldve been done at 50-60k miles. If it hasnt been done run away now. If the timing hasnt been done by now id put money on it that most other maintaince hasnt been done on time if at all.

I've Had 6 Toyotas and 3 Hondas and have never changed a T-belt or chain before a 100000, or 5 years, which ever comes first. No problems ever.
What I look for in a used rig is overall condition. If it's very clean in and out and doesn't show signs of reconditioning 9 times out of 10 it's been taken care of. Another thing I check is the oil. Look for a dark brown color burnt on the dip stick and for gunk inside the filler cap. Both are signs of not changing the oil enough. If a truck looks bad you can bet it's been treated bad. If the T-belt hasn't been done use that to haggle the price and have it done yourself. I just picked up a 2000 Tundra limited 4X4 ext cab with 120000 in exellent cond with no T-belt change and haggled the price to $8300 because of it. Belt and pump change at a dealer was $650. Kick the tires and give it a good look and you may find that it's a great truck. Good luck!!

My neighbor works at Carmax and has been a mechanic for 25 years. Before I bought my Tundra, I posed the question of timing belt replacement on the 4.7. He told me they use a chain. No replacement required.

The 4.7 has a timing belt, and yes, regardless of what the owners manual says it should have been changed at 60k. Its got an interference engine in it, this belt goes say goodbye to top end or possibly the engine. new 4.7 liter is about 8 k last time i checked. tehere was a recall on the lower ball joints on the o5 as well.

Checked the Toyota website, and I stand corrected. There is a timing belt and it gets changed at 90,000 miles. Guess I know whats on my plate this weekend. Thanks for the heads up, gadget
