In-Line Water Softener

Anybody try them at home yet?

The water that comes out of my outdoor water faucet is loaded with calcium and contaminants. I wash my truck a lot in my driveway and the sun never gives me enough time to get the water off before the white spots start to form (they are a bitch to get off).

I saw an in-line water softener on Griot's Garage (fyi Admin, they should be one of our forum sponsors) website but they want $129.99 for it and the replacement filter is $109.99

I was looking into one of those too.

Right now I have to get up at 5:30 and be out in my driveway as soon as there's enough light to start washing. I actually have to wash/dry the truck in sections. I do the roof and windows first, followed by the hood and fenders, doors finally tailgate. A big hastle and takes more time but it's worth it to not have any water spots. I live in the hot dry desert so I HAVE to do it this way.

The mr clean one worked pretty good, I would say 90% better. I live in wyoming, its really dry here, and lots of minerals in the water. Im gonna have to check out a better in line filter

The mr. clean system IS an inline water softener. Depending on how often you wash your truck, this could be more cost effective. However, if you get the watersoftener for your home, you will have soft water for your whole house.

If you get the softener that hooks to the outside tap ONLY to wash your truck, you probably wouldn't have to change the filter but once a year...if that.

An in-house water softner is a great thing to have.

Indeed. I would keep it simple...like the softeners that use salt pellets are nice.

The Mr. Clean unit works really good! The key is to start from the highest point on the truck in filter mode and change the filter when ever it's needed.

i've had super results with the MR. Clean unit. THe key is to replace the filter when needed. Don't try to get extra out of it.

WOW, I was just thinking about this yesterday when I was washing my 2000 TRD, No LIE! I live in SW MO and our water is iron filled hard! I have hot and cold water hook ups under the kitchen window on the outside of the house to fill the kids small pool out on the deck with, remember when 'we had to live with COLD well water to play in'?
I have a 'Water Boss' softener that softens the whole house's water. I love to wash my truck and not have to worry about 'spots'.
The water Boss water softener costs about $450 plus installation (did it myself) with $40.00 worth of materials.
Note this is a bonus because I had to have it because the house's water needed it!
Soft water ROCKS!

I had a house built 2 years ago and actually had them plumb a seperate line and spigot in the front of my house (next to the standard spigot) that runs from my water softener for the house.

So, in the front yard I have my regular spigot and my soft water spigot for washing cars. It works great and only use the spigot for soft water when I need soft water.

Good advise for any other clean freaks that may be going through the home building process.
