If you're using this stuff, you really should use a microfiber rag, not terry cloth. You can pick up bundled microfibers at sams club for pretty cheap. I'll never buff or take wax off my car with another terrycloth rag. They are a little too harsh. You can also find old baby diapers that are incredibly soft to use, but they are more expensive. If you want to read about detailing and get some great tips try this site: Autopia - Autopia Home It's a great forum and the detailing guide that is posted there is a great reference for products to use. I generally use Meguires Gold Class products for everything on my vehicles. It's a bit more pricey, but it works. If you want to go a more professional route try out some products from here: Top of the Line Auto Detailing Supplies I have ordered plenty from there as well with excellent results, however I'm usually too impatient to wait for delivery, hence the Meguires.

you have to use the clay bar first its to fill in the swirly areas go to autozone or whereever u bought ur stuff and check it out. i know black is hard to maintain trust me i know! or or use 3M rubbing compound!

I used Ice a week after I bought my truck and it works very well. Bought the liquid with the pad, not the spray. I'd only put one coat on before the temp went sub-freezing and it held up great for the last 5 months, (rain, sleet, snow, hail and salted roads.) It's just now starting to show signs the water isn't beading as well as when first applied.

Another great thing about it is it's safe to use on plastic, chrome, you name it. And if it gets on flat black it won't turn it white forever. (I got paste wax on the black trailer mirrors on my Ram and never did get it off.)

I did break down and buy one of those nano-technology paint sealers some of the guys have posted about here and on other sites. It's supposed to be what the dealerships use and last 5 years. I hope they're right because I'm all about more shine that lasts longer with less work. If that's even possible.

Should be here in a few days. I'll post my findings.

Thumbs up

I have been using Meguiars paste wax for years. So I decided to try Turtle ice wax polish and I must say I am very happy. I have already applied 2 coats in the last 2 weekends. It does look good!!!!! I now got the spray detailer to use it between washes.

Besides making the truck look good this product can be used under the sun with no issues and it wont leave white marks on plastic, I think it's great.

It really does not feel like the wax will last for too long though (at least the liquid), but that's not a problem for me, waxing the truck relaxes me lol.

It's funny I used to laugh at my neighbor beacuse he washed his hummer every weekend, he has one of those old classic ones. Now I am on the same boat

I know what you mean. I had a black truck before and there really is nothing you can do to avoid those.

Here's the key, if you want to get rid of them, and are NOT experienced in using an orbital buffer, take it to a professional. They can buff the scratches out and make it look new.

Remember, those scratches are abrasions in the clear coat. Sure, you can "hide" them with polish and waxes, but they will reappear once the compounds age.

The only way to truly remove them is to have a professional use a cutting compound (rubbing compound) and remove a thin layer of the clear coat. Again, it's not something to try if you are a novice.

On dark colored cars when applying wax do not make circles. Rub it as the air would flow over the truck. It makes the swirl marks much less noticeable.

Also especially on dark colors take your time with the polish. About the time you think you've polished enough, do more.

I'd try the Zainos ZFX with an orbital buffer. Even a novice should be able to make it happen without doing additional harm. Of course, that stuff will take off any wax/polish you have on. I'm a "Zainos guy", so I'd recommend that of course. Someone mentioned "liquid clay bar". Not sure what that product is...and it may be good...but there's no way it would be a substitute for a real clay bar.

I've never used the liquid clay bar by Turtle Wax - but logic reasons it can't perform as well as an actual bar.

As you mentioned, the use of an orbital buffer is necessary. If someone is going to use one, they just need to remember that to completely remove the swirls, they have to buff off a very thin layer of the clear coat. The swirls - usually seen in the sunlight - are the light reflecting off v-shaped cuts in the clearcoat itself. So to remove them, you have to smooth the groove, or in other words, remove part of the clear coat.

I'm not saying a novice can't do it. They just need to be aware they are removing part of the clearcoat.

Turtle Ice Wax

I purchased the spray bottle "Ice" wax and was very pleased with the result. I also used the microfiber cloth to remove the application. Surprising enough very little is needed to achieve a great shuine.

Ice

I also use Ice products and am happy with the results. I use microfiber for everything I do on my truck...even drying. I am tired of the sheep skins.

i've been using turtle wax for about 6 years now. yeah the one with the pad that looks like clay is better than spray, it last longer. when you do it use pressure. the turtle wax is really good i still use it on my tundra. back then on my integra when i wax the door handle i would slip trynig to open it because the wax is just too good

If you Google it, you might wind up back here at the clay bar thread.
