Keeping the Tundra Scratch & Dent Free

Well I paid enough for my new truck that it will not be taken up into the hills for firewood cutting season. I do however use it for hauling and towing, but where I go to get firewood I end up brining vehicles out with dents and scratches. To combat this problem I purchased a 1989 Nissan 4x4 pickup thats about 3 different colors and already dented and scratched. This will save my Tundra from becoming another wood hauling casuality. Plus my new Tundra probably wouldn't make it into the places I like to go just due to the overall size of the truck.

I hauled a pallet load of 8x8x16 cinder blocks a few weeks ago, and the truck did it without a single problem.

Allright way to go. I did a pallet of sod along with a pallet of stones from Home Depot. Today I hauled a 700lb safe where I palced it on my tailgate then we pushed it in. No dents on the tailgate and it never flexed. So I'm intrigue about other people's issues with the tailgate. I also put Herculiner on my tailgate.

Well when that pallet of concrete blocks went in the truck I thought I would have a dented or even bent tailgate but I think that Rhino Liner protected it. I love my Tundra.

Rhino has been excellent for me. I was surprised when my wheelbarrow full of dirt didn't dent it when I rolled it across. However, it still flexes when I stand on it. My friend's F150 with Linex doesn't budge with either, to be honest. I wonder if that's the Linex or not.

Those old Hardbody Nissans are tanks. You can't break 'em.

I really haven't noticed a flex in the tailgate on my Tundra, but I really haven't been paying much attention to it either.

The tailgate on my Nissan is pretty heavy, I think it probably weighs more than the tailgate on my Tundra. Your the 3rd person that's mentioned the old nissans are pretty good trucks, so I guess for $1400 I didn't do too bad, I mean the paint is pretty beat up but its going to be my go to the hills truck anyhow so it would end up looking bad anyhow. It already has offroad tires on it with lots of tread so at least I don't have to worry about tires for a while either.

My first truck was an 84' Nissan 4x4 with a four cylinder. It was a great little truck. I was young, stupid and gave it all kinds of hell. Ran like a dream. Much better of a truck than my current 06' Silverado. Wish I could find it and buy it back. I hope to be in a Tundra soon, not a fan of the Titan's, but I do like the Frontier's, just not enough room. Old Nissan is a good buy.

Will a supposed state of the art automated wash system with non scratch, polishing cloth brushes ruin the paint of a 2008 Black Tundra Crew Max?

Don't use an automatic car wash. Especially those ones that have the big floppy mops that are supposed to clean your truck. They take antenna's off and scracth paint all the time. Any dirt and grime stuck to the mops will scratch the paint.

If that's even what you were referring to. LOL

I wish this truck had some kind of side body molding to help with door dings. My Titan has a 2" wide color-matched plastic molding down each side and after 3 years do not have a single door dent. (knockin)

Check out some pics in the gallery. I think RunItHard has some side moldings on his truck but can't remember for sure. I saw them in a post somewhere. He had install them himself but it was not a big deal.

Yeah, I know side moldings are dated but I've had some bad azz door dents that were a pain to repair. I had one in an Explorer that was nearly a 1/4" deep. The ones on the Titan don't look bad, you can hardly notice them.

I'll save you the trouble of looking through the gallery... Here's the post.

07/08 Tundra Bodyside Molding

They're still working great for me as I'll see a new mark on one of the moldings from someone's door every 2 or 3 weeks. A little plastic cleaner/conditioner makes the marks go away.
