The mr. clean system IS an inline water softener. Depending on how often you wash your truck, this could be more cost effective. However, if you get the watersoftener for your home, you will have soft water for your whole house.

If you get the softener that hooks to the outside tap ONLY to wash your truck, you probably wouldn't have to change the filter but once a year...if that.
