I have taken off the door panels and removed the speakers my question is the plastic that is glued in the doors?? Is this some sort of vapor barrier? An I ok to remove it to add dynamat to the inner panel of the doors?
You're probably already finished, but yes, the vapor barrier just peels back. Like Red said, install the Dynamat, then just push the barrier back into place.
I actually just pulled it completely off and plan on heading to Home Depot to get some new plastic barrier in the morning... I had never read anyone mentioning it before so I kind of threw me off
ooh... ok, i just assumed you were installing like 6 12" speakers and like 10,000 watts of power or something
Only time i used dynamat was when I had a HUGE system in my trunk....
was your truck noisy?
Road noise was mostly what was killing me. My car before this was an Acura tl that had a cabin where you could hear a pin drop and right now I feel like I'm driving around in a soft top jeep
hey let me ask you, have you finished that project? if so, what percent would you say was improved? my crewmax isnt loud persay, however compared to my daily beater (2011 cadillac cts) it is a little loud. I may do what you did depending on your results.
I know you're not asking me, but I have covered close to every square inch of my cabin with Dynamat and closed cell foam. There is a huge difference in road noise afterwards. My DC went from a tin can to what feels like solid steel. The doors close with a solid thud, rain noise is minimal at most on the roof, and overall cabin noise has been cut down drastically. Its a great project and worth every cent.
Dynamat will help it a lot if youre covering every square inch, but if youre just placing CDL tiles randomly on the panels, you'll benefit even more by adding a layer of mass loaded vinyl or closed cell acoustical foam. MLV will really deaden the cabin.
Just finished up all the deadening and took it for a ride and I notice a pretty significant change in the sound within the cabin. I was a little short on cash so I didn't due the roof and ran out of luxury liner so my doors are just dynamatted. I would definitely recommend this project to anyone who is unhappy with the road noise. Like previously mentioned the doors seem to thud close now and I really think the luxury liner helped alot with noise on the highway and I don't seem to notice as much exhaust drone.
I'm currently reinstalling my doors and when I hit the lock stitch the doors quickly lock and then unlock again?? Anyone had this issue and know a remedy?
