Question about traction control....

Today I was out and about at a stopsign in the middle of nowhere....I decided I wanted to see what my truck would do so I hit the button for the traction control. The "auto lsd" light comes on at the right side of the guages and so does the vehicle with the squiggly line behind it on the left. As far as I knew that disabled traction control. Well I punch it from a dead stop and it started to break the tires loose, I could hear em squealing and it got slightly sideways....well at around 20mph the truck literally falls on it's face. Traction control still kicked in, I would imagine it's from the sensors that can detect the yaw motion of the truck. Is there a way to TOTALLY disable traction control on the 07/08 tundras? Thanks in advance.

Brett

EDIT: Let me add I did read the owners manual and from what I gathered the VSC could be turned off by holding the "trac" button down for around 3 seconds. I don't see the VSC light turning off on the dash when I do this though. Is there a chance mine is not operating as it should be?
