That is a lot of weight, as a matter of fact 1/2 that is still a lot of weight. Sounds like you've got some out of round wheels or tires or both. If you were running 37" mudders it might be normal to need 6+ ounces.

You're not going to necessarily get more miles out of your tires if you put more pressure in them. Too much pressure can wear your tires out even faster than underinflation. 55 pounds isn't enough to do any harm but 40 pounds will get you the same wear and is alot more comfortable.
