When I hit an upward slope, it slightly increases RPM and does not downshift to the lower gear as would a truck without Tow/Haul. Is there an advantage to not have it activated at all times? When Im cruising at highway speeds, the truck runs the same as it would anytime, unless a slope or something of the such. I have an old clunking 4 speed tranny though, maybe it is different with the Tundra's 6 speed.

I tried different things to get the best MPG's for the trip home.. The tundra seemed to keep steady speeds without the tow/haul mode activated.. I used it only when going up a steep hill to keep the rpm's up... The Tundra also has a built in tranny brake system.. It is activated whenever you step on the brakes while going down a steep hill...You don't have to be towing anything for this to work.. Nice feature
