[can't stop spinning]

Sorry about the noobish type question, but this is my first truck, and I'm curious. I know there is a huge difference in gearing, but what is the advantage of using 4 low? When would a person use it?

I've found it helps a little in really deep/loose snow, but why is that? Is more power going to the front wheels?
