Where you damage stuff on 4X4's is locking in and trying to turn corners on dry pavement. If you are driving straight down the road shifting into four wheel will not hurt anything. My last DD for the past four years was a 1987 Wrangler. 170,000 miles on it and it still runs great. I only shifted into four wheel once every two or three months but used it alot in the winter. Still original motor, transmission and transfer case.
