I've tried to find the study but now I can't seem to locate it. Anyone else seen this?

Can't say I saw that article. But I've benn trying premium for over 2 months and now I went back to regular. A very small increase of .1 to .2mpg. I couldn't really tell any increase in running performance. But I will try the mid grade just to see for a couple of months. It may take just finding the right gas station also.
